Steve Nash.....

Alright so I am watching the Pistons vs Suns game on ESPN (live now) and have noticed how little, meaning none, of the defense Steve Nash actually plays.
Sure he can run the floor, dish the ball, score when required, but his defense is shocking. He doesn't pressure the ball handler, doesn't use his hands to block passing lanes, and as soon as the opposition takes a shot he starts heading down the floor, leaving his player open for the offensive rebound.

You can argue that he is a 2 time MVP, but that doesn't change the fact that he plays worse defense then social players at the Dome on a Wednesday night.....

Agreed, thats why Dirk Nowitzki is the well deserved MVP.

In case you havent noticed Phoenix doesnt exactly play a lot of defense. They are all offense and no defense thats why Steve Nash fits in so well.

Yeah i have noticed that, but i also noticed that in the last 2-3mins of the first quarter when Nash was on the bench, the team played defense and actually got some tough stops on the Pistons.

The whole team might be offensively orientated, but at least the rest of the team ATTEMPTS to play defense....

I think Raja Bell is actually one of the better defensive players in the league. I agree that there team defence is horrible, but their one-on-one defence (bar Nash) is actually pretty good.

Dirk is not a defensive specialist but he is no slouch on the defensive end.

Dirk's D has continually improved each season, he's no defensive specialist but he certianly isn't a liability on the defensive end.

*SPOILER WARNING*

Full credit to the Pistons defence today, they were playing a fair portion of the game without Chauncey Billups at the PG spot, but Flip Murray stepped up well.

In a well played game the Pistons have taken another road win, this time over the Phoenix Suns (105-83) and take their West Coast road trip to 5-0 for the first time since the early 90's.

Credit to the defense because they held the offense orientated Suns to a season low of 83 points, on their way to a big victory.

PISTONS STATS:
Flip Murray: 25 points, 6 steals, 4 rebounds, 2 assists

Chris Webber: 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists

Rasheed Wallace: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks

Carlos Delfino: 13 points, 7 rebounds

SUNS STATS:
Steve Nash: 20 points, 6 assists

Amare Stoudemire: 24 points, 15 rebounds

Boris Diaw: 12 points, 3 assists

Yes, great analysis based on one game you watched where they got spanked, Clarky!

I would say his not that bad of a defensive player because if he was teams would just post him up every game and abuse him but I don't see that happening. The rest of team are great defenders and I don't think his team could ask for much more from him.

Post up Nash and get spanked when Amare, Matrix and Boris come across for the help defence, no thanks

oh wow. He is probably the 2nd most potent offensive weapon in the league (behind Kobe) Kobe also plays shocking team defense. there seems to be a pattern here. The best offensive players in the league save themselves for offense. Its the same with defense... the Bowens, Bells, Wallaces are all offensive liabilities, but make up for it on the defensive end.

And Dirks team defense is appalling. did you see the way Nash picked apart dallas's and dirks pick and roll defense.

oh, and considering i don't think he's ever had a fast break in his career, "he starts heading down the floor" seems a bit... well, wrong.

This thread is hilarious. I am pretty sure he has more positives than negatives....bozos.

Stevie is the MVP....not Dork.

Good grief i saw the Suns v Pistons game and you could see the Suns were as flat as a tac. Very lethargic even for the mercurial Nash. The Suns aren't the greatest defensive team but they do have the capacity to shut down some of the best offensive players in the NBA (T-Mac 8-28).

If the Suns were as sharp in the game v the Pistons as they were against the Mavs they would have smashed the Pistons.

Maybe you should have told the people that voted for him for MVP the last 2 years that he doesn't play D - I'm sure they would nothave realised.

He is in the best 3 or 4 basketballers in the world right now.

he is in the running for MVP (again) just shows how important he is even though he (visably) doesn't play d.

So let me get this right....there are still people who think that Steve Nash is worthy of being a 3 time NBA MVP?

How is this possible? In 2005 he was clearly league MVP, Im willing to conceed that. In 2006 it was LeBron, noone can convince me otherwise, check the stats. This year its "Dork", period.

If Nash wins another MVP, the voting sytem must change, as its clearly no longer functioning.

Are we really saying that Steve Nash is in Larry Bird territory, the only other 3 consecutive MVP winner that i can think of off the top of my head during this annonymous rant :)Better than Kidd, better than Stockton, better than Magic???? Huh?

End Rant.

Winning three MVP awards means just that - has no bearing on whether or not Nash is as good as Bird.

i would personally put nash in bird territory
