This could be a very widely disapproved of MVP should the Mavs go down and the NBA awards the trophy during the second round.

I like Bill Simmons' arguments against Dirk for MVP.

Nash, Kobe, McGrady would be my preferences.

I hope Dirk wins MVP so that they have to call a press conference to award it to him

Dallas cant beat GS with Baron and Jackson in the lineup. If they were in dallas im sure the refs would find someway to throw them out so they would have a shot

END OF 3rd

Warriors 86 Mavericks 63

Warriors
Baron Davis:
20 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists (with a slight hamstring tear)
Stephen Jackson:
25 points, 3 steals, 7-7 3pt (career playoff best)
Andris Biedrins:
12 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks

Mavericks
Jerry Stackhouse:

Is this the end of the Mavs for the season?

Am I being premature in thinking that the GSW could get to the finals.

IMO that Utah will get out of the Houston series. I think they will probably beat Utah - too many horses.

IF Pho get out of the SA series then it will be a run and gun fest - who knows they could win that too.

Warriors went on an 18-0 run in the third. Those pre series concerns about the Mavs facing a team they didn't beat during the regular season seem to hold some weight.

But check out the shooting
Mavs - FG 29/77 (37%) and 3-pointers 9/30 (24%)

GSW - FG 34/74 (47%) and 3-pointers 13/27 (48%)

Dallas 67-15. What a waste a Bigger upset than the
1994 (1)Seattle v (8)Denver

During the regular season.
Warriors were 2-2 vs utah and
were 2-2 vs houston

Hopefully Davis can recover from his hamstring tear, id love to see Phoenix v Golden state in the West finals.

Dunno about it being a bigger upset than Sonics Nuggs '94 but it's close... That Nuggets team had nowhere near the talent of this Warriors team and their coach (Issel) had no place on an NBA bench... Second biggest upset maybe...

94 was a 5 game series tho - I don't think Seattle would've lost 4 times to that Denver team like the Mavs just did to GS. Any 8th seed defeating the 1st has to be up there. How many times has it happened I wonder?

Kemp and Payton those were the days
Nuggets had Robert Pack causing havick back then with Mutombo patrolling the paint.

i think Seattle were 64-18 that year
That series was won in 5 games after the Nuggets recovered from being down 0-2 in the series, and Won game 5 at Seattle in Overtime.

very interesting article by Bill Simmons suggesting that the Warriors crowd have a lot to do with getting them over the line. See this Ozhoops thread for details:

They'll have the winner of the Houston/Utah series next. I reckon if Utah get through that one, GS might I have a chance. Houston will probably take the series though, and I can't see the Warriors beating them.

I too noticed them putting the Euroleague on instead of the NBA, who the hell in in charge over at ESPN? Baseball most days of the week, Soccer the rest and now the only NBA we were supposed to be getting is replaced?

According to my guide, we won't be getting ANY NBA next week either....

Can anyone think of a bigger choke ever but a legitimate super star than Dirk's today?

Starks choked big time in that final game vs Houston back in 94 but he was not in the same calibre of player as Dirk.

Think this is gonna be the kinda thing that will haunt him the rest of his career (well unless he wins the title in the coming years).

More often than not the Franchise Player will step up in the big games - often its his teammates that let him down. Its not very often that you see a choke of the level that Dirk has in this series.

I know this is being talked about as a big upset and i dont doubt that. However despite the Mavs winning 67 games and the warriors only 42, the warriors did sweep the mavs and although some of those games didnt mean anything they did end the mavs 17 game winning streak. I would also say that out of the 5 best players between both teams, the warriors would have 3 of them. Personally i think they have a better starting 5 and in my mind it is not that much of an upset.

Baron Davis is the best attacking point gaurd in the NBA. Since his return from injury the warriors have been unstoppable. I don't see much changing in the next round against a slower houston or utah team.
