Pioneers

The upcoming 20 year celebration is well earned. The Pioneers have thrived in the toughest competition in Australia outside the NBL for a long time. They are a credit to South Australian basketball when so many other SA teams are struggling to field teams worthy of playing in the ABA.

Go the Pioneers

Who the hell are the Pioneers

Go #$%@ yourself. Don't take credit for Scotts money - which bankrolled your team and your stadium.

Many teams would be a credit to their league if they had a daily newspaper and t.v station behind them, attracting sponsors.
Ask yourself how many Mt Gambier juniors have gone onto play NBL - not many...if any.

With all your money you've won how many titles in 20 years???

But hey Happy Birthday underachievers....

Someone always has to spin off some shit!

Im not quite sure if there is any substance to all that you have just posted.

Many including me believe that the team has been very successful, 1 conference title, 1 national title, 3 grand final appearances, 3 national finals appearances.

All this coming from a community which is by far the smallest in the league.

Sorry but one conference title and one championship in 20 years for me isn't successful..... Especially when the Pioneers pay the biggest money and bring in foreign players .....for one national title.

Ballarat has won 3 national titles and umpteen conference titles(who counts them anyway) and they've won playing with many local players.

If Sturt had your bankroll and played in the SEABL they would spank Mt Gambier....and win more titles.....while using local players too!

I would like to see the pioneers play in our league. They might be able to challenge West for the fifth finals spot this year. Seriouly since they have won the national championship they have been a borderline Central conference finals team at best.

Having said that, that is not wat this is about, Happy birthday. 20 years... wow. How many years has West or the eagles been around for?

If this is anything to go by, West beat the Pioneers earlier this year without Truslove and Mann at the Mount...

Think Pioneers were missing Shepherd but had both imports playing...

I would like to know where the perception that Mt Gambier has a big "bankroll" comes from... Simply not true. The club works hard to get every sponsor it can from the town to support the club.

There seems to be a bit of a chip on the shoulder from the Adelaide forum posters about Mt Gambier, why?

#5470 Rich country folk, we all know that is a given. *TIC*

What the Adel folk don't understand is that the Mt has a population of only around 20,000 and a heap of sports such as football, soccer, hockey, netball etc as well as basketball competing for sponsorship from a select few businesses and mostly these businesses give something to more than one sport.
The Pioneers don't have a junior competition such as the Adel districts to form part of the support base of the club but rely totalling (not partially)on sponsorship / inkind promotion / player & supporter run BBQ's / in school promotions by players / door and bar takings and a lot of volunteer hours. Sponsorship is a tough job for any club (of volunteers) regardless of location and any club president of any sport will tell you that but I would say probably even harder in a region with limited businesses to draw on.
#5175 Ask your club president how much it costs to run a club each season, it may surprise you. Then tell us how much money you think the Pioneers are "bankrolled" for each season.

#5175 So I guess you are no fan of Port Power either being recipients of Scott's money.
