Earlier ABL games?

It has been bandied around lately that ABL games are played too late into the evening.

As winter encroaches, the stadiums get colder and its less and less attractive to bring the family out or convince juniors to stay for a long night of games.

Further, the post-game socialising between mens teams has all but dissipated, as people rush to leave after the late finish of games.

Would people support earlier starting times? Perhaps the women starting at 5.30pm and the men at 7.15pm?

How greatly would this affect people that worked?

Suggestions / comments?

It would be great, but not all venues are available at 5:30pm due to afternoon comps. You may lose a few spectators due to Church & Social basketball commitments.

Definately too late.

Would be good if players could sign a petition or something to get the issue more noticed.

A lot of your spectators and volunteers are parents who have kids who play saturday afternoon sports, and they have to be at games anything up to 60-90 minutes before the start of the game. 530 tip offs sound great (sitting behind a stats desk in the middle of winter isnt great for arthritic knees!!), but may have a negative impact.

I think your idea has great merit. Can BA or who ever they are trial it for a few games?

The wants of the many out way the needs of a few!

Would be all for the earlier start!!!!
And almost everybody I have this discussion with is positive about the move also.

People who work on weekends may find this a little taxing, but hey if you play ABL you have already made sacrifices for training etc, whats two hours gonna do except save your saturday night and sunday!!!!

What about the players that work till 5 or later on Sat and then have 2 come home and then go 2 a game doesnt give them much time. i wouldnt mind it being earlier becuase i enjoy watchin the games and goin out aswell but i think it could be hard for some players

Great idea, the majority of players especially on the men side would agree. Most clubs are sponsored by pubs and clubs, and its hard to get out to these places after games when you get home around 11pm. Earlier games I believe would be better attended, most mates and family members love coming to games but dont want to spend all saturday night at a cold bball stadium. Finish at 9 and people can still go out. Anyway most people play for the social side of the sport.

Any thoughts on both comp's being played at the same time, same venue. Would it be too difficult for organisers or would it be detrimental as the supporter base could be spread a bit thin? Need to work through courts like Hillcrest with no room to move if both courts ran together? Or maybe consider it for the venues where it would fit? Don't know, just thinking out loud...

I would rather the games follow each other so you can take both of them in,but yeah, lets start them earlier. Who can we bug about this?
