If he ends up in the nba it might seem bad for us because hes not in a 36ers singlet but you've got to remeber it's great for australian basketball to have him in the nba and it'll great to watch ,assuming he gets on the court.

Here is a quote from another site which suggest Newley has had an okay camp.

"Another player that made up for so-so camp was Australia's Brad Newley. He took advantage of playing with point guard Brooks, and found himself with multiple open looks at the basket from three point range, most of which he converted.

how it is good for basketball in S.A. The incompetance of basketball management here will not capitalise on this. Go ask anyone if they've heard of andrew bogut. a late 2nd rounder/undrafted newley will do little for basketball in Australia

That being said, good luck to him :D

Surely IF a local boy (Newley) made the NBA the local media would be all over it, if not just Boti and Zac.

I don't know about SA, but in Melb most people heard about the tall lanky kid going number 1 in the draft. Sure they don't know his name, probably wouldn't even recognise him. But it's something and generates interest.

This was posted on NBADraft.net in the bottom 20 players at the draft. lOOKS LIKE HE WILL BE A SIXER AFTER ALL.
Brad Newley (Townsville) -- 3.67 ppg, 2 apg, 26.7 fg%, 100 ft% -- The Aussie who came in with a big reputation as a scorer, Newly shows an spunky demeanor but lacks a real standout attribute. He has a good shooting stroke and passing ability and plays very unselfish, which didn't help him stat wise. But his lack of foot speed keeps him from getting separation from defenders and his athleticism is just average. Scouts feel he should pull out and try to improve for next year's draft.

Heres the 2007 one. Brad Newley 6-6 198 SG Australia 1985 -- 8.0 ppg, 8-18 (44.4%), 3-8 3p (37.5%), 5-6 ft (83.3%), 2.0 spg. Newley had a solid showing. He knew what to expect having played here last year and had a much better showing. Does that mean he's going to get drafted or he's a future NBA player? No. Despite being an excellent leaper and shooter, his feel for the game is average at best. His lateral quickness is poor and he seems to stand upright on defense far to much making it easier for opponents to get by him. He lacks the experience, effort level and court sense of someone like Seibutis.

The one thing that would happen is that it would show our young players that you can make it to the NBA through the NBL. If that starts happening then we may not lose as many to college. This would have to help the NBL.
