Breakers sign Kirk Penney

Good news today for the NZ Breakers with Kirk Penney agreeing to a one-year deal.

More info (well, not that much more info to be honest)

Penney has previously lead the Tall Blacks in scoring (16.9 points per game) at the 2002 World Championships as they finished fourth and has suited for the Miami Heat and LA Clippers.

His last pro stint was in Germany.

This is welcome news for the Breakers after Kiwi Craig Bradshaw turned down their (apparently) higher offer to join the Bullets.

Also in NZ:

Import Josh Pace has been named the NZ NBL MVP after a quality scoring season. All-Star Five honours went to Pace, Link Abrams, Lindsay Tait, Dillon Boucher and Oscar Forman.

The NZ NBL is currently in its Grand Final series with the Giants leading 1-0 after the first of three games.

Penney is a great signing. I would expect him to be one of the better players in the league. He was dominant at Div 1 school Wisconsin a few years back, and they are of top 25 caliber most years.

I'd say he will be giving the Summer Leaugues a crack - so this may not be the signing we think should he bust onto a roster...

NZ NBL must be pretty average if those five are the All Stars... especially the last one!
