Wouldn't Newley have left enough cap space for the Sixers sign Mottram AND someone else?

Simple answer is Yes we do have cap and points space. McPeake has been appointed as new consultant to the sixers on how to get this done.

so couldn't we wait and find someone better ?! I mean, Mottram's great (*crickets chirping*) but he's not even close to Newley in either points or cash.

Agree, I think Mottram is the best unsigned Aussie going around (that is a chance in hell of playing NBL this season). Also, to put a positive spin on Newley leaving, we could certainly use another big against the 'twin towers' in Melbourne.

What about Damien Ryan? Has he been signed yet? Couldn't be bend the rules to squeeze Ryan and Mottram in?

Ryan signed in Europe and there is no way we could've signed both even if he hadn't. For one thing, he would've wanted a tonne of cash.
