Watching channel "D".

There seems to be a preoccupation with channeling D and zone defense so that players have to be introduced to their oppostion by telephone in girls basketball.
Skilled, threatening defense, in your face and nasty seems to have gone out of fashion and even ineffectual zones are thought to be the better option.
Over the past few months I've seen zones that were threeed to extinction and worse, ones that yieded to drive after drive yet the coaches maintained it.
Just why the escort service called channeling has so beguilded the coaching fraternity Im not sure but it destroys the naturally gifted player from exhibiting their defensive skills and surely must be only part of defensive strategy not all of it?.

soo many bad calls in that statement.

example 1, lets take my for an example. could anyone guard him one on one? no. so therefore you need to create a defence in which the team can help out.

by channeling baseline, the team knows every time where the playing is driving and can execute the neccessary rotations to cover. as you said, there may be some individually talented people but your only as strong as your weakest player in D.
