Locked: NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Has anyone been able to find websites to get the updated match scores from both the U14 girls and U14 boys nationals which commenced today?

That certainly will add percentage points for them..well done..

I see Forestville and Sturt Girls are currently 1 and 2 respectively on the ladder - dont want to jinx them but it appears they are both in with a strong chance..fantastic effort..

South girls playing good basketball but struggled with some injuries last nite v canberra. Good luck in today's game girls. Sturt & Forestville will make top 6.

Blame the injuries. They should have never have gone and were always going to play for bottom 4.

South softies ur a tool. Guess it would b to hard to b positive about South being at national's.
Girls played Bulleen yesterday and played a great game. At classic's they played eachother and Bulleen beat them by 70. And Yesterday only going down by 18. Score line doesn't prove wat a exciting game it was. 5 south parents making louder noise than the 40 Bulleen supporters.

So what? Bulleen rotated all their players and you were never a threat. What positive? The only reason you guys are there because they stuffed up the draw and had to increase it by 4 teams. Hardly inspiring stuff.

Boys defeated Brisbane today to advance to top 8. They carry through the win against Brisbane and only need to defeat either Eltham or Gosford to advance to the final 4. If they do, it will be the fourth year in a row in the medal round, a great effort.

How are eastern boys going - bottom 8 ? Won winter season by 10 yet do not seem to travel well. Stage fright or the coaching ? Should be doing better than this one would think. Your thoughts Hillbilly ?

Just back from the land of the pussy and they were all but puuuurrrrrrfect. One massive power failure occured. What a magnificent pretty sight to see so many teal, blue and grey jackets leaving the G before 3/4 time on the last saturday in september. It has been worth the wait and who cares if it takes another 44 years. I think you would agree that it was a sensational purformance from a pure footy perspective.

Have also witnessed first hand a flogging or 2 in previous GF's but at least we were not cocky or arrogant like messr's williams and co. Hope you are not a power supporter.

By the way have they still got any of those 1982 powerdores for sale where it costs you half your dole cheque for 2 years and includes a free ashtray upgrade and multi coloured tri colour panels. Believe I saw one parked in a paddock near Tintinara on monday night as we came through. Came with air con as the windows were down.

Let's all hope that the girls parents of these two teams show a little more sportsmanship than the corresponding group of "adults" from last year did on this site.

Sturt v eagles. Half time 22 - 19 sturt up. eagles had bad quarter scoring wise. Just bad shot selection. More than good defence. Crowd for both teams very vocal

Great work by Matt Gliddon and the coaching staff for Sturt. Commiserations to Trevor Simmons and the Eagles. This might very well have been the Grand Final game.

The same two teams that squared of for the Classics GF in U12's are back at it again. Remember that Sturt romped it in back then, but I am sure this will be a much closer game.

Fantastic effort by SA to have 2 top 4 teams.

Congratulations to all SA teams, did us proud, great effot by Sturt though to have girls and boys finish in Top 4, all the hard work has paid off guys, you should all be proud of yourselves and your efforts to finish where you did. Top effort from both coaches, and support teams.

Well done to Sturt & Eagles in having teams make the top 4. Any time you can get there, you know you've had a great week. Mavs coming 15th was the only SA disappointment for the week.

My memory doesn't stretch back too far, but the last 4 years Sturts results have been something like:

2007 - Boys 4th, Girls 2nd
2006 - Boys 3rd, Girls 5th
2005 - Boys 1st, Girls 2nd
2004 - Boys 3rd, Girls ?

Which I think is pretty impressive in itself. Add in Norwood & Forestville (in boys & girls, respectively) finishing top 4 last year and things can't be going too horribly in SA junior basketball, can they?

What happened to Eastern, there was a lot of talk about waiting for the results at Nationals before reviewing how good the team is. What happened for them to come 15th.

Actually I think South Girls coming 22nd was the biggest disappointment! Means they really shouldn't have been there in the first place!

Thanks Empire. Rubbing it in again. How about we talk about the best player in the 14 girls moving clubs along with a couple of others. That 14 team will drop big time in two years time. I think you say SA Country is doing well because the best players over the week were country. SA metro is looking very sick indeed.

Are you then saying that 15th at National Champs is something to write home about when they continue to claim on the site they are better than the Sturt team which finished 4th.

15th is disappointing when they had a team of players with a lot of potential.

What I am saying is that Eastern lost a game by a point that could have changed their whole week. Look at the girls side, Dandenong beat Sturt and have done so consistantly yet missed out on the top four. Because of the way the draw was for the girls this year they did not get to carry their game over. The thing Sturt don't get is that they continually rub in peoples faces by coming on here bragging. It will be an interesting couple of years to see Sturt with some non star studded team.

if these players had stayed a sturt well and good - i wish them well if that is what they want.

sturt's u16s are very strong next season, very competitive - going deep with quality coaches.

hardly think it is the end.

yeah - let's turn this pleasant little positive thread into a dig about players who have reached the ripe old age of 12 or 13. Let's make it sour and nasty and teach the true values of sportsmanship. Let's make sure that the great players at this age group continue the trend of appearing nowhere when it really counts for them because of the unbelievable pressure and BS surrounding them. People make decisions about clubs for whatever reason - who cares? Sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't - time will tell, labelling someone "the best" only works in girl's gymnastics at this age ..... leave it be.

Does anyone know what actually happened at nationals for these two seemingly relatively evenly matched teams to finish so far apart?

Was it just a matter of one team having a good week & one a poor week? Was it coaching/preparation? Was it just the way the draw fell?

Not trying to stir anything up here, but looking from afar I was just amazed at the difference in results.

from what i know the sturt boys team were preparing themselfs by training against the under 16 div 2 boys team. this included two minute drills proper quaters etc. the 16 team was that much bigger that it would of helped them alot, on that well done to all sa teams.
