When asked if she was worth a spot, on merit, in the team owned by her father, Marino insisted: "Yeah, I believe so. I find it incredibly offensive that people say that (I don't). No one knows how hard I work, but I'm always going to be blasted."
Lightning operations manager Carla Boyd sympathised with Marino's situation.
"She was always going to be the scapegoat if things went wrong," Boyd said.
