Cat definitely better than Saville.

Cat is more reliable offensively.

What about Sammy Mac? Before his knee injury in Townsville, he was in top 3 players in the league. He could score, rebound and pass the ball, his defence was right up their with Darnell Mee, so to put Glenn Savell in front of Cat and Sammy Mac is a bit much.

IMO Simon Dwight has underachieved with the amount of talent he has. The only area he would have excelled at would have been shot blocking. So he cannot be in my best 5 for the Y2K section.

My top 5 for the 90's would look like this

C M Bradtke
PF: M Davis
SF: L Logins (even late into the 90's was a gun player)
SG: A Gaze
PG R Grace

Y2K squad

C: M Bradtke
PF: Martin Cattalini*
SF: Sam McKinnon
SG: Brett Maher
PG: Shane Heal

I agree with Golf squad's 90's team. Pretty spot on imo.
Unlucky omissions would have to include - Copeland, Heal, Vlahov and D-Mac.
2000 + still a bit early to decide on this team i think.
An all Aussie 'wasted talent' list might make for good reading.

What about Copeland for the 90s squad? He did avg 29ppg in '92 and in the mid 20s for most of the decade. He won 2 titles with the Tigers, though I guess it's hard to justify them having 3 of the starting 5 when they only won 2 titles! Grace, D-Mac & Copes all pretty close. I'd give it to Grace for winning 3 titles in the 90s.

Scott Fisher probably deserves a mention for his play in the first half of the decade, though he wouldn't make my team. 4 man is tough, because a lot of the very good PFs (Fisher, Crawford, Davis etc) were all winding down by the mid 90s. The next tier below them (Vlahov, Ronaldson etc) were, well.. a tier down, in my opinion. I'm giving my vote to Bruce Bolden. He performed for the entire decade and even at the end of his career was still very effective. Also lead South East Melbourne as co-captain (with the injured Darren Perry) to a tile in '92, as well as '96.

5 - Bradtke
4 - Bolden
3 - Rose
2 - Gaze
1 - Grace

There's my 5.

Coach K - You could almost put the entire '95 gold medal winning junior team in the wasted talent side.

Bolden wasn't in the 1996 South East Melbourne Magic title team. He left the Magic after 1994. Was at Sydney from 1995 to 1998 and then moved across to West Sydney.

But I'd agree Hoop Addict Bolden performed for the whole decade while some of the over power forwards were dominating in the early 90s (Davis was a 25 and 10 guy, Crawford 20 and 10 etc) by the end of the 90s these same players were gernerally back-ups, (still Davis had his moments in 98/99).

My bad DC - you're quite right. I'd still take BB for the decade though.

Spot on HA.
That was a great result for the team and BA, it's just a pity the players didn't realise what they could have possibly achieved down the track.

Blakemore was awesome. Never heard what happened to him. He finished in Canberra right?
