reporters not allowed to talk to chappell

from NBL.com
The Adelaide 36ers are shielding Mike Chappell from the media in a hope the struggling import can rediscover his best form away from prying microphones and cameras.

Chappell has averaged just 11 points per game at 33 per cent since joining the Sixers and is struggling to retain his spot on the roster.

Coach Phil Smyth said reporters had not been allowed to interview the 203-cm player so he could concentrate on playing good ball.

"There hasn't been an explanation for it medically with the first set of tests so we are hoping something in the second set of tests will come back," he said.

"It might have just been something in his system that's made him flat."

Despite the media interest and the club's own obvious concern about the 29-year-old, Smyth said the Sixers' game against the Sydney Kings wasn't necessarily Chappell's last chance to fire.

Smyth said every player goes through bad runs and observers of the game should assess the team's overall form rather than just an individual's performance.

OK then, the teams overall form is lacklustre, inconsistent and uninspiring. Now what?

Pay me the big bucks and I will diagnose.

He is getting old.

The body has not recovered from the back injury because he is getting old.

He was a great player a few years back when he was younger

Shielding him from the media huh? So have we been able to convince Fox Sports not to cover tomorrow night's game?

Why Can't we get the good old players?

Darryl McDonald comes to mind...

Then maybe we will start having a go at the young players at the Sixers ;)

Darryl McDonald??? Are you serious?

He is probably having a worse season than Mike!!
Without a doubt, D-Macs last season.

DMac's been thrown to the bench behind Crosswell. Not an example of an older guy putting up good numbers. Your best bet in that regard is Copeland who has been in decent form recently.

Chappell gets given 1 minute with the media for every point he scores and a point taken off for every foul... No one can do a good interview in 2 minutes!

Perhaps he is having difficulty in regaining confidence because of all the negative comments about his performance. I don't believe for a minute that players of any sport at this elite level is not affected by the comments made about him. Time for everyone to stop the nasty comments (me included) and let the club deal with this situation.
