Seamus returns fire at Rucker

The other day, outgoing Kings exec Derek Rucker said that the NBL in Sydney was dead.

One of the league's big players, Tigers owner Seamus McPeake, has stepped up to defend the league, trashing Rucker's executive skills.

"No one cares here in Sydney," Rucker told Brisbane's Sunday Mail.

"It's dead. You get 2500 people to a game. It's fairly sad."

Seamus responded.
"Most of the clubs are doing OK and the league is alive everywhere except Sydney," McPeake said.

"That's probably because Derek Rucker sat on his bum and did nothing.

"He's taken a lot out of the league and put nothing back and then makes comments like that.

"Here's some advice: never put an ex-player in to run a club because they don't know how to do it."

Can anyone say Chuck Harmison?

ex player, now CEO.

So McPeakes thinks an ex-player cant be an exec of a club but it is ok for an ex-player to be "in-charge".

the game will be dead if chuck remains at the top. He is the man responsible for this ridiculous schedule. he had success a the gong but the only reason for that was John Carson who was an influential and well off businessman.

Seamus is correct explayers should not run clubs, especially since they have no commerical experince, ie Chuck, Vlahov and Rucker, even ex coaches such as Claxton in GC.

kad do the GC have a major sponsor?? Answer NO, thats pretty alarming if they are in the top 4 and they dont have a naming sponsor, dont you think? great to hear they have corp support but with there success they should have signed a major deal by now.

I would have to take a guess and say the sporting culture is spread pretty thin across NSW. They generally follow the rugby, both union and league, then soccer, followed by cricket, AFL and then well down the list would be Basketball. In Victoria/SA/WA we don't really compete with some of those sports, so we tend to get a lot more support for basketball. The Sydney Swans still struggled with numbers even during the two years they made the GF.
