Ogilvy wins SEC Freshman POTW

From BA:

19-year old basketball star AJ Ogilvy has won his third Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week honour and his second consecutive award after three solid performances last week.

Ogilvy is the leading international scorer in the American college system at 19.3 points per game, and is also in the top five in the nation for freshman scorers.

Hailing from the Hills district in Sydney and standing 6'11' or 211cm, Ogilvy averaged 20 points and 9.7 rebounds per game over three victories against Iona, Rice, and UMASS last week.

Ogilvy tallied his second double-double of the year with 25 points and 11 rebounds against UMass, with all 11 rebounds coming in the second half. He also posted a 20-point, 9-rebound effort versus Iona and 14 points and nine boards in 20 minutes against Rice.

Vanderbilt opens the SEC portion of their schedule when they play host to South Carolina on Thursday morning at 11am Australian time, from Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tennessee.

Ogilvy's Commodores are undefeated after 15 games and have risen to No. 12 in the national rankings.

It seems for a big guy, his boards are down.
Is this due to the nature of the college game (more blocking out, shorter games etc), or is he being targeted specifically as being someone to keep off the boards?

Ogilvy isn't much of a rebounder so he's doing well in that area by averaging nearly 10 a game.

I see he's moving up the ranks and is being considered a late lottery pick (currently at 17 which at the moment is the Raptors). I also spied the name Nathan Jawai as going 24 to the Lakers.

NBAdraft has updated Ogilvy's profile:

Outlook: Ogilvy has solid strength but he doesn't have the frame to be an overpowering center on the next level. His bread and butter will likely be as a finesse guy knocking down 12-15 foot jumpers and great vision ala Brad Miller.

Jawai's profile is also updated:

Strengths: Highly aggressive, loves to dunk on guys and really enjoys playing physical ... His attitude is one of his biggest positives. He can get angry and emotional, but that actually helps his game and does not hurt it.

Problem is that his NBA comparison is Eddy Curry..

Two Aussie's in the first round would be great.

Interesting that they are both moving up

Ogilvy was 21
Jawai was 30

IMO, Ogilvy needs to focus on being a PF in the NBA. If he is seen as a legit 4, he will get picked up high in the draft.

Ogilvy and Jawai are both big players (6-11 and 6-10 respectively), But their games are very different. Jawai has strength and the frame to play a center(his game is about power) while Ogivly is quite strong but doesn't have the frame to be a legit center. He is the kind of player to settle for the turnaround jumpers(12-15 footers)

Jawai is kind of like Andrew Bynum-a player with alot of potential and the right frame(height etc) but doesn't have polished post moves

Ogivly is kind of like Yi Jianlian-a player who has height but doesn't have the strength to be a post player, and therefore is suited to shooting the outside jumper.
