The 36ers Academy defeated the Mount Gambier Pioneers 101 to 98 on Saturday night at the Icehouse in an entertaining game.
The Pioneers showed great spirit to get within 3 points after being down by 16, and a half court shot from Dallas Jeffree on the buzzer narrowly missed sending the game into overtime.
Rory Craddock and Luke Mapunda were outstanding for the Academy with 24 and 22 points respectively while Anthony Spadavecchia and Zane Reeves chipped in with 14 points apiece.
Tom McKenzie battled above his size to finish with 9 points and played well defensively on the Pioneers bigs while Brad Bungey was the teams leading rebounder with 15 boards.
For the Pioneers, Dallas Jeffree proved a handful with a game high 31 points and Jason Sedlock was his usual reliable self with 21.
Parham showed some signs around the basket with 14 points and will be better for the run after only arriving in the country on Thursday.
The 36ers Academys' fitness, defensive intensity and perimeter shooting proved too much in Sundays re-match prevailing 83 to 71.
Leif Burdon was the game MVP, hitting 6 fom 7 from the 3 point line to finish with 25 points and was ably supported by Luke Mapunda, Chris Molitor and Brad Bungey.
Tom Cioffi and Phil Brown were momentum changers off the bench and provided great minutes, and a 43 to 27 rebound advantage was decisive.
Jason Sedlock was best for the Pioneers with 30 points and Dallas Jeffree and Chris Mason provided solid support.
Two high intensity, physical games and a fantastic way for the 36ers Academy to wrap up their games. Congatulations to all involved.
