Sam Harris signs with Slingers

http://nbl.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=74820

Oi, anyone know what 221cm is in feet, i'm old school and refuse to move with the times. I noticed his favourite pro athlete is none other than the great Dirk Nawinski, surely a fine specimen was Nawinski, his style and grace as a nba back up centre during the cold war was nothing other than inspirational.

Back to school or you curtley - work on your spelling.

Tasmanian Sam Harris is a 7ft 2inch centre who has just graduated from Old Dominion after his senior year in NCAA Division 1 competition.

He will prove to be a great asset for the Slingers and give them genuine size. Good signing, and another example of good young talent coming back to play in the NBL.

Daniel Johnson with the Tigers, Stephen Weigh (yet to sign), Daniel Dillon (yet to sign) and hopefully Aaron Bruce (yet to sign).

221cm equates to 7-foot-3 in my book. 213cm is 7-foot, and 8-cm is 3-inches.

Then again, many would say 8 or 9 inches is close to a foot, so does it really matter?

I think it's because he's not considered to be very good. Tall (e.g., 7'3" or so), but not that skilled. Briefly trained with the 36ers a few years ago.

He is a graduate of the AIS.
He was effectively a backup centre on a mediocre Div 1 NCAA team in his time at US College.
He is and never has been on the NBA radar.
He still has a lot to offer and could be expected to continue to improve.

Sam Harris and the Slingers just won the Brunei cup beating LG Sakers from Korea in the final. See more on www.bruneicup.com .

Next week Sam Harris and the Slingers will go to Malaysia to play in tournament to celebrate 50 years of basketball in Malaysia . See www.malaysia-basketball.com

Expect for Ben Knight, who has joined Perth, the rest of the players seem set on staying with Club as per original contracts.
