Team now looks like :

Shane McDonald /Jason Castro
Darren Ng / John Fitzgerald
Import to come / Chris Daniel
Ben Knight/ Blagoj Janev
Import to come / Sam Harris

Several players are able to back up in several positions giving the Slingers a lot of flexibility as long as the last 2 imports are quality players and the center "a real rebound monster".

PG
McDonald, Castro, Ng , Fitzgerald

SG
Ng, Fitzgerald, Import to come

SF
Import to come , Daniel , Fitzgerald and Janev

PF
Knight , Janev, Import Center to come

C
Import Center , Sam Harris , Janev, Knight

Jason Castro has the last 2 years been the MPV in the PBL which is the amateur development league below the Professional PBA league.

This year Castro was considered to be amongst the top 3 picks for the PBA draft. Below is the 2008 PBL player ranking where Jason Castro is featured amongst the leaders for scoring, field goals , 2 points, and free throws .

Here is his stats as part of his team Harbour Centre

Castro is a pocket rocket who brings speeds , ball control and great marketing opportunities to the Slingers .

Hopefully this experiment with signing the first Filipino in the NBL will be a success for all.

For those who are interested the Slingers have updated their website www.singaporeslingers overnight with a much more comprehensive report on their signing of Castro and Turner's plan to tap into the basketball crazy population in the Philippines.

The article states that Turner is also looking in the PBA for potential imports . This league has featured players such as Rosell Ellis ( considered last years best import ) and Chris Burgess. In general the PBA teams prefer to use their import spots for big tall rebounding centers to complement their run and gun style local players but every so often middle of the road SF players like Kelly Williams and Marquin Chandler also have a season there .

Most likely Turner will have to look somewhere else to find his imports this year though since is already is in the Philipines he may like to look briefly at the following 3 centers - NBDL player Chris Alexander (7'1' Sioux Falls) who have just joined , Adam Parada (7'0') from the Mexican national team and no nonsence Jason Dixon (6'9" and playing in the Chinese pro League too) - plus entertaining NBDL SF Darius Rice (6'10').
