Heal yes... Farley ... no - what the ???

This is what i remember from a couple of years ago...

Phil found Willie at a Lakers training camp and recruited him.

Willie again tried for NBA - again at the lakers - with no luck.

Heal has a try out and gets a go with the Spurs - when they were going well, with reasonable minutes.

Obviously Farley is a better player - did he only want to play for Lakers? - why would spurs look to Heal?

or did one have a specific quality that either team wanted?

just might have been the kind of player they were after...seeing as heal hardly got any minutes, the spurs were prbably just looking for some 3 pt range and as much as i hate to say it, heal can hit the 3, altho anyone can hit a 3 when you take 10 3pt shots a game!!! they are different players so teams willlook at them differently...but no doubt willie has the bette all round game@!!!

farley doesnt hav the body for the nba so if he would make it he would hav 2 b a damn good perimeter shooter. i do not rate farley as a perimeter shooter and he takes shots at wrong situations. heal was just a lil pik up 4 the spurs, no game time but when he was on the didnt hav him there to penitrate to the hoop he was strictly there 4 his outside shot. kind of lyk how the spurs used classic veteran steve kerr in their championship finals game. no handles, just shooting the lights out wif his 3-point shot.

If I remember correctly Brett Brown (ex-Sydney coach) was on the coaching staff (still is, maybe?) with the Spurs - that's why Heal, and Gaze both got roster shots as the team's 3 pt shooter. Gaze in memory played a few games but in the playoff run didn't make the 12, whereas Heal got cut when Tony Parker came back from injury.

Heal went to the Spurs for the same reason that Gaze did - Brett Brown recruited him. Brett Brown has been an assistant at the Spurs for a number of years now. And yes, he has 2 NBA championships.

To say that Willie doesn't have an NBA body is a stretch. They don't all look like Ben Wallace and Karl Malone you know . . .

Would Reggie Miller even have an NBL body?

willie farley is probably a bit slow off of the dribble and his shot selection needs redefining, other than that he is a great player and he would be an nba player with around 7 minutes a game id say

Heal was a fillin for the Spurs when almost every PG on their roster got injured before the start of the season. He had like 1 decent game and ended up being with the team for only a few weeks.

Willie Farley is too short to play SG in the NBA. His ball handling isn't good enough to play PG and his outside shooting is streaky. He is a fantastic player in the NBL, but his game isn't particularly suited to the NBA, let alone all NBL clubs as seen by his time with the Pigs.

Reggie Miller on the other hand is 6'7" and reasonably tall for a SG. However players in Reggie's mould (Rip Hamilton), SG's that spend a lot of time running off screens are somewhat advantaged by having a slighter frame.
