2010 Commonwealth Championships

Just found out that the 2010 Commonwealth Games will not be featuring basketball, and therefore australia's senior teams do not have a chance to defend their titles.

However FIBA have just announced that the 2010 Commonwealth Championships will be staged instead:

Should be a good way of continuing to develop basketball, as Commonwealth countries are not traditionally as strong as the rest of the world. Look for Australia, Canada and New Zealand in the men's side to do well, with the Aussie women set to dominate.

Good concept for the other countries involved, but should see Australia clean up unless Canada brings some NBA players. Would be great to see Australia get the 2012 one for Women.

Use it as a warm up for the Commonwealth teams prior to the World Championships. It might actually garner more support and interest for Basketball than the farce of having basketball as part of the Commonwealth games.
