What was the first ball game you went to??

For me 1981 Grand Final, Launceston Casino City v Nunawading Spectres. Start of a very long basketball addiction.

Not sure what my first game was. my most memorable game was watching rob rose run a full court 1 on 5 fast break in the last 6 seconds of the game to send it to overtime. never hear the powerhouse that loud in my life. huge comeback win. oh, it was on my birthday as well.

sorry it off topic.

1986, Bullet vs Sixers at Apollo. I got selected for free throw shoot out at half-time. I won an Alfa Romeo key ring and size 6 basketball signed by the whole Sixers team for hitting two in a row. I was 7, but do remember the classic fan poster of "Sixers are Bullet proof". I thought that was so intelligent and witty back then.

I also remember getting paid $5 to sweep up at a Buffalos game and meeting Scott Ninnis close up.

My first was 1987 Sixers V Giants.

Willie Simmons hit a jump hook from memory on the buzzer to win it for the Giants.

Linky worked once, but not twice. Boo!

Willie Simmons footage. Loved watching him play for West. The longer footage has a trademark hook shot, almost from the foul line as the first play. Forward to 5:45 and see a block, huge dunk and jump shot all in 30 seconds.

He's playing college ball in Karl Malone's team.

I remember seeing Spectres vs Giants at the Glasshouse when I was over in Melbourne for a basketball tour in like 1990?

Guys in the crowd taught us to yell "Bruce, Bruce, Bruce, Bruce" everytime Bolden got the ball.

Maybe not my first game but memories include:

Around 1970 at Forestville Stadium to watch South Australia vs Oregon State University and a 6'0' point guard by the name of Billy Nickleberry who could do a standing slam dunk - VERY IMPRESSIVE.

1972? Mens Club Championship Grand Final in Newcastle - St Kilda vs Melbourne - St Kilda victors with Eddie Palabinskas shooting the lights out. Ken Cole in his speech at the end stated "and commiserations to the other members of my team who didn't make the Olympic side" (only Palabinskas was in and the majority of the team were from Melbourne with Lindsay Gaze as coach - shades of Goorjian).

Lots of NBL memories including Launceston Casino City winning title after St Kilda withdrew to go to the World Club Championships, Canberra Cannons vs North Melbourne, and of course 36ers BACK TO BACK titles.

Went to see the Harlem Globe Trotters in the late 70s at the Apollo when I was less than 5. Got a sweat band from one of the guys at the end of the game. Wore it on my head and stretched it beyond use.

First NBL game was mid 80s. Saw Sixers vs Tassie Devils. Wayne McDaniel scored about 56.

I remember that Tassie game Colin. I went there to see Jumpin Joe Hurst who ended up with 4 points while McDaniel had 57.

Was also at the game when McDaniel scored 56, he was incredible that night.

But my first NBL game was in 1982 I think, seeing West Adelaide with Al Green, Leroy Loggins, Ray Wood, Peter Ali, Brad Dalton, etc. Can't remember who they played but they smashed them!

Also remember going to see the Globetrotters when I was about 5 or 6.

Went to game 2 of the 1986 finals when we got belted by the Bullets on a Friday night. Game 3 was played on the Sunday arvo & couldn't get tickets... however they used to let the smokers out the back door at the end of each quarter, so we snuck in with them at quarter time. Have got highlights on VHS & can see myself standing at floor level by the basket at the stage end! Aaahhh... they were the days!

First NBL Minor ROund game at the Powerhouse, 36ers vs Giants in 1992.

And JoeyKnuckles, that Rose moment was my best basketball moment I've seen live.

Anyone got that game on tape?

My Grandpa used to take my bro and me to Apollo for Wednesday night State league games during school holidays...

Hey lethal5, I snuck into that game too and was near the basket and also captured on VHS. How uncanny is that.

Can't remember the exact year, but it was Sturt v South in the first year or two at Apollo, Rod & Phil Bauer and Steve Johansen vs Mike Ahmatt, Don Shipway & Lyn Parnell. (They all looked so huge!)

Also, West vs anyone with Werner Linde & Glenn Marsland (who a few years later was my Chemistry Teacher at Unley High, didn't play BBall at school myself, but remember Boti did, although he is a few years older than me)

From the "Age" thread.....

First saw NBL watching the 83 Finals Series played at Kilsyth stadium (my mum was administrator of the place).

Sat front row and watched Voldemort's Canberra Cannons beat Leroy's West Adelaide Bearcats in the GF. It was a 2 point thriller and I was hooked.

1985 semi finals Sixers vs Newcastle Falcons at Apollo. We scabbed tickets and had to lay on the stage under the southern backboard to watch the game.

I watched Daryl Pearce ice a three point play when his defender, guarding him with his hand in his face lifted his hand backwards. Pearce realising he was of balance shot and it was all net. From that moment I was hooked.

1986 we had season tickets behind Ken Coles bench. Absolutely awesome location particularly when he would turn around and make some comment to us because of or sledging comments to the opposition players. We like others also knew some of the team from other basketball clubs.

a lot of older guys in here, i was only born around mid 80s, my first game was when the Giants came to our school and i won free tickets from Sengstock in a freethrow shootout...

early 1995, got to see D-mac and the Giants put on a show at the glasshouse, introductions were in the dark like thedragons do it now... i loved it. my mate had a chance to win 10,000 with a halfcourt shot, but won a trip to hobart i think, with a closer shot.
