NBL schedule released, tips-off Sep 13

The NBL schedule has finally been released after a difficult off-season for the league.

Adelaide's first home game is the 19th of September, hosting Townsville. The 36ers tip off their season on the road against the Dragons.

Full schedule

A lot of Saturday games in there for 36ers fans, just one Friday game and one Sunday game at home.

Bully, Winitana will not play Sunday games because of his religious convictions.

Bonecrusher, we will have 11 signed players (once we get a second import on board), so someone else has to sit out each game anyway. It might as well be Winitana.

Ah, the return of the Doomsday double. About time. We are on the good end (the second leg) of it against Cairns on 10 January.

Is it just me or is there only 15 homes games for us.

Our season tickets were for 16 home games were they not.

Do we get a reduction in the cost of our tickets

The three teams we play four times are:

Wollongong
Gold Coast
Sydney

Not bad IMO - better than having four against Souuth, Melbourne and Perth! =)

This annoys me as almost every year we play our first game on the road!!! Or is this just my imagination? I know we played our first game at home last year.

I am a bit "Jack Toft" with that too. We play our first and last game away. The four other teams who play away first, also play away last game (Melb., Towns., Woll., and South). New Zealand start home and finish away, but the NBL gods obviously like Perth, Sydney, Cairns and Gold Coast - all have the priv. of starting with and finishing with a home game.

Personally, I always like to finish with a home game as in a close one the crowd gets the team over the line.

Don't like games 4 to 7 (4 on the road). Last season, that was our undoing - Brad injured in Perth, wheels fell off without Brett...chooks went off their lay. We have four home games in a row though....

3 games on a Wednesday if I read that correctly, all during weeks which I will miss due to district commitments. Thanks a lot, feel ripped off now buying season tickets to miss quarter of the season.

If Foxtel don't come back on board it will be even more tragic with all these Wednesday games.

In a perfect world it should be 5 teams get home games and the other 5 should get their final game at home.

Also I think it should be like football where you play one week at home and one week away. I guess they do it for cost reasons where you might play Townsville one day and a few days later play Cairns but other times where there isn't cost saving involved then it should be like that.

cavolo - For sure. If I had to choose 3 teams, it would have been those exact 3 I reckon.

Double Clutch - if you play on a Wednesday night in District (presuming it's the 4's), then you should only miss one, possibly two games, as the summer season finals will most probably be on Dec 10th and 17th (?), so the second game you will miss will be the 10th. Naturally that will only be dependant on whether your team makes the finals?

The third Weds is the Jan 7th, and if I remember right, winter season doesn't kick off until Feb??

Hope that helps and gives you more value for money! ;P

KingJames,

Including this season the Sixers have started the season at home 4 times and away 6 times since (and including) the 1999-00 season.

In the 1990's it was 6 at home and 4 away.

In the 1980's it was 5 at home and 3 away.

In regards to the championship seasons - 3 titles have come in years they started the season at home (1986, 1998 and 2002) and 1 when they started away (1999.) Therefore, things are not looking good for this season.

In regards to the seasons the Sixers made it to the Grand Final but did not win, it is split 1-1 with it occuring once during a season they started at home (1985) and once when they started on the road (1994.)

In regards to the years the Sixers didn't make the playoffs/finals - 4 of those years the Sixers started at home (1982, 1992, 1997 and 2008) and 3 of those years the Sixers started on the road (1983, 1990, 2007.) So, little can be read into that.

Cavolo,

Actually I coach in a Div 1/2 Under 18 squad on a Wednesday night and plan to again next season so the only Wednesday game I will see is the one in early January. Since spotted a fourth Wednesday game since. And I am paying for 3 tickets! Absolute rip-off, might have to consider getting a refund.

And I sat thru the Phil years to keep my good tickets but it may just not be economical.

With only 10 teams in the league, each team visits each other so often that even away games will start to feel like home games for the players. I am thrilled that we don't have a home game on the 13th December as the previous schedule showed it to be an away game and I agreed to a Xmas function on that night. Then I started to regret it in case the new schedule showed us having a home game on that night.

All players look like they get a small break around Christmas too. Six teams are playing on NYE, including the 36ers on the road.

I wouldn't mind spending NYE on the Gold Coast tho.

Skip, that may be a possibility. Will get in contact with you closer to the dates if still interested/tickets still available (the first game will be on the same night of practice if my team makes the grand final).
