2006 champion Opals into Sports Australia HoF
The Australian Opals team that won the 2006 FIBA World Championship for women in Brazil will be immortalised by the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made on Wednesday night at the 24th Sport Australia Hall of Fame induction dinner and will be followed by an award presentation in June 2009.
Three other teams will be enshrined alongside the 2006 Opals - the 1966 St. George rugby league team for the 11th consecutive NSWRL premiership; the 1998 Australian women's squash team for their 3rd world championship with the same players; and the Australian women's 4 x 100m medley relay team for their world record at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.Great recognition for the team!
