Penney, Goorj get NBL monthly awards

Player of the Month and Coach of the Month for Sep/Oct in the NBL have gone to Kirk Penney and Brian Goorjian respectively.

Penney averaged 26.7 PPG for the month, leading NZ to a 7-2 win-loss equation in that period. Goorjian meanwhile took the Dragons to an 8-2 record and top spot. While he did do a lot of recruiting to achieve it, he's turned the Dragons around from a 5-25 season previously.

Here's how the voting panned out:

September/October Player of the Month
Kirk Penney (New Zealand) 89
Chris Anstey (Melbourne) 27
Corey Williams (Townsville) 19
Shawn Redhage (Perth) 17
Joe Ingles (South) 14
Mark Worthington (South) 12
CJ Bruton (New Zealand) 12
Luke Schenscher (Adelaide) 7
Sam Mackinnon (Melbourne) 5
Dusty Rychart (Wollongong) 4
Darnell Mee (Cairns) 3
Julian Khazzouh (Sydney) 2
Darnell Hinson (Perth) 2
Ebi Ere (Melbourne) 1
Glen Saville (Wollongong) 1
Adam Ballinger (Adelaide) 1

September/October Coach of the Month
Brian Goorjian (South) 85
Andrej Lemanis (New Zealand) 73
Eric Cooks (Wollongong) 39
Alan Westover (Melbourne) 9
Rob Beveridge (Sydney) 2
Scott Ninnis (Adelaide) 1
Conner Henry (Perth) 1
I think the top three coaches are right, but surprised to see Cooks not get more votes.

Well done to the two 36ers representatives, Luke Schenscher and Adam Ballinger in the players list, and also to Joe Ingles, polling very well for a 21 year old!
