Top Ten Lightning Players of All Time

This should be an interesting choice:

1. R.Sporn
2. J.Kingi
3. L.Summerton
4. E.Phillips
5. V.Daldy
6. C.Boyd
7. J.Hill
8. J.Foley
9. A.Marino
10. M.Brogan

Unlucky ones are Moffa, Lindsay and Braithwaite

Does anyone think any differently?

1. R.Sporn
2. J.Kingi
3. L.Summerton
4. M.Brogan
5. E.Philips

That's my starting five :-)

Moffa was a good team player but would not have had the same stats as Marino

No way Braithwaite is in the top ten, unless you're ranking the players by height or something. Woosnam should definitely be in. Marino = lol.

I agree that Sporn and Kingi are a worthy top-two.

Gahan, Foley so far have proven they are 10 times the player Marino is, 1st here, have you got a clue?

Narelle Lindsay would go ahead of Marino too I'm sure of that.

Ok - Chill out
First of all I did not have Tracy in my top ten

Second, I am happy to admit that a case could be made for Lindsay over Marino

Woosnam has also been a fatastic player for the club

Sad to say I forgot about Gahan who is a certainty

Go's to show the depth of talent the club has had

Remember with Marino she averaged over 15 points per game at the Olympics and has been the teams main guard this season - I think she is a fantastic player despite what you might think of her Father

Oh and no I am not related

Last time I checked, I'm pretty sure Marino did not play in the Olympics???

I am pretty sure that Kristi Harrower played for the lighting in the early 1990's? She would be in the best 10 player to represent the club.

Marino has played at two Olympic games (2004, at 18 years of age, and 2008) and won a silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Has been one of her team's better scorers too.

True, I left her out because to my knowledge she only played the 1 season but she did still represent the Lightning

Too early for Marino

Woosnam should definitely have a place.

Love the irony of a Marino playing on the NZ Olympic team. Bah.

Valdy would have to be higher. They dominated in the early to mid 90's. Boyd and Hill should be higher than Summerton and Phillips. The competition was so much stronger when they played. So many of the top players are not in teh WNBL these days.

Nykiel never played for the Lightning, she played pre-Lightning in the Noarlunga City Tigers days. But all due respect Nykiel is one of the best sportswomen this state has ever produced, acheived across two sports (basketball and netball) and IMO has never received the accolades she deserves.

Bates played for West Adelaide and Roberts for the then Adelaide Comets.

When the two teams combined to form the Lightning, Bates was let go to Sydney and Roberts continued as the Lightnings sole import (WNBL rules at the time were one import per team).

#214790 ....

thanks for that - including the correct spelling of Nykiel!

Did the teams merge at the time, if so then she technically played for the club, if not the Lightning team..

I have had a think about what others have said and have landed on top 13 "in order" this time

1. R.Sporn
2. K.Harrower
3. J.Kingi
4. V.Daldy
5. E.Phillips
6. L.Summerton
7. C.Boyd
8. A.Marino
9. J.Hill
10. J.Foley
11. M.Brogan
12. N.Lindsay
13. M.Moffa

I have not taken in to consideration how long they played, simply talent and stats
