Grizzard axed, Tigers bring back DT

Rod Grizzard has been axed by the Melbourne Tigers.

Following Saturday night's lost to the Adelaide 36'ers, the Melbourne Tigers, obviously fuming from dropping their fourth home game of the season at "The Cage," have made one of the most surprising changes in NBL history, releasing Grizzard (who was undoubtedly the Tigers best player on the night) and bringing back Dave Thomas, a member of the last two championships.

Grizzard was averaging 13.2ppg in his first season for the Tigers, starting all 19 games, but Melbourne's recent run of poor form has seen 'Grizz' outed and Thomas brought back in with the saviour tag.

Thomas was cut by the Cairns Taipans earlier this month after the club went into administration. DT was averaging 11.6ppg in far north Queensland, playing in 16 games.

As broken on Gaze TV in the wee hours of Sunday morning, the Melbourne Tigers have also shaken up the roster with the addition of Luke Kendall, who comes in as a replacement for Sam Mackinnon, after doctors told Mackinnon to not risk returning to the court this season.

The Melbourne Tigers do not play again until January 11th, a home date with the Perth Wildcats, when Thomas and Kendall will make their first appearances.

Interesting Gizzard was signed on for three years so I guess he will walk out with at least $500,000.Anstey shooting the 3 pointer at 23% is more of a problem , clearly no other team would allow so many shots at such a poor percentage from a 7 footer. Gee this team has deep pockets!

WTF?

In the game vs the Tigers at the Dome, Grizzard was the one that played the most consistently and provided a threat even when the rest of the Tigers were lacklustre. His free throw percentage is very good and he's a capable scorer.

Stupid move by the Tigers.

Could not agree with you more a quality player, panic is setting in these changes will not get them into a 1st or 2nd position at the end of season just a money wasting exercise! A new coach would be a better solution !

I heard Grizzard weren't happy and was going to walk out the door at the end of the season (the contract wouldn't have counted because of the "new league" happening) he complained that the plays weren't set for him etc. So Tigers are probably just trying to save some face.

I mean addition of Dave is probably somewhat better but how's the injury going to hold up?

Suprised by this sacking. He seemed to perform and certainly caused us some problems. Still if he is not happy and they have other people interested then a preemptive strike is understandable.

Would be happy to see him in sixers colours but do not want to cut anyone at this point. Our team seems to be settling nicely thanks very much. Maybe when Balls has natrulised but not now.

stupid move, grizzard is a real quality player and DT is well past his prime. the tigs will be licky if DT averages more than 10 ppg.
