Harvey warned but won't face tribunal

After leaving the bench during a scuffle in the Blaze-Dragons game, James Harvey faced a potential penalty but has emerged with a warning. Something as serious (over the top, IMO, had it eventuated) as a suspension would have almost gifted NYE's game against Adelaide to the 36ers. Harvey has been one of few shining lights in recent Gold Coast games.

Gold Coast forward James Harvey was issued with a warning following a league review of an incident that took place at the conclusion of the Boxing Day game between the Blaze and the South Dragons.

Harvey was involved in a minor scuffle that broke out on court with two seconds remaining in the game. Harvey was on the Blaze bench at the time of the incident and this could have opened the way for the possibility for him to be charged for "Bench Clearing During Fight" and referred to the NBL Tribunal.

However after reviewing video evidence, NBL General Manager Chuck Harmison determined the incident not serious enough to warrant a tribunal hearing.

"By the rules, James should have been ejected from the game for leaving the bench area" (Article 39 of the Official Basketball Rules) Harmison said. "However the referees ruled that because there were only two seconds remaining in the game, and with the result of the game well and truly determined (South Dragons won 117 87) that the game would be terminated immediately."
Fair decision?

Yep fair decision - good that it was stated that he should have been ejected, also interesting that they decided to end the game at that stage. If the game was to continue definitely should have been ejected and unless anything actually happened during the scuffle then he and others should have at least been cited.

Either nothing really happened in the scuffle - but can nothing actually happen in a scuffle?? or the refs took the soft option and left it to the league to decide if it warranted any charges

Shows how good the NBL are going when they list him as a forward in their press release.

Haha so the ref's decided to end the game did they... It wasnt Joyce yelling at his troops to get the F#$@ out and F@#$@ those C$@#$, and pushing them towards the players race. The Ref's had no control the minute the chestup occurued.

The league needs someone large like Shaq reffing the games. The moment a fight breaks out; the ref can step in and begin throwing people around. Maybe even sucker-punch a few people.

Considering the time of the game, the call to let Harvey off is fine. If he threw a punch, I'd have expected at least a 3 game suspension.
