36ers confirm release of Hodge

Hodge and 36ers part ways

Little bit more info from the club, expanding on what we've already heard.

The Club had been working tirelessly to locate a payment to Hodge's US bank account and had informed Hodge's agent that the payment was held up in the US banking system, clearing the 36ers bank account weeks ago.

Despite proving this to both Hodge and his agent, the threat to sit out practices and games came daily with no communication to the players and coaching staff.

The 36ers opened an Australian bank account for Hodge yesterday and paid in full the money owed, with Hodge confirming to Hemmerling that this would resolve the issue.

Cheers Isaac. Does it seem to anyone else like Boti has slightly changed his tune over all this now that the facts have come to light?

Initially his stuff read like the Sixers were screwing over Hodge, which started a minor media frenzy on basketball sites.

The beat up definitely didn't help the cause IMO.

My read on Boti's change in tune is that he wasn't impressed by payment problems, but thinks that bailing on the team like this is too much.

Agreed. He definitely intimated the Sixers' administration was to blame though.

I think Boti's change was due to as Isaac said the not turning up, although Boti is a writer, he is an avid Sixers fan, and I think the Hodge saga last night pissed him off.

Maybe Hodge issue than became something to do with how his contract stipulated he be paid - ie he didnt want to be paid in $AUD into an Aussie bank account. Even know this rectified the problem at hand, later after thinking about it he had a change of tune, figured it's enough of breach of contract that I can walk from this 2-3 week late payment that is now sitting there in an Aussie account.

Considering the agent's reasoning is Hodge is unhappy with his contract, nothing has changed except method of payment, well nothing should have changed!

May I suggest that there was no breach of contract on the part of the Adelaide 36ers. This is based on the statement that Hodge's agent sought a release from his contract as in the the title of this thread. If the 36ers were in breach of contract, then there would have been no need to seek a release. Conversely, Hodge by not fulfilling his part of the contract (playing) would have been in breach of contract.

They are relieved it's over.
Scott not knowing if he was coming to training or not.
Mal's had enough of his agent.
Brett said he's a good player, but not a team player, and too high maintanance.

Ya don't know - a popular young guy, a good player that may have got caught up in his fame and fortune. Enjoyed the compliments and nite life.

Breach or no breach still require a release if he wants to play for any other team under the FIBA banner.

220097 - I think the bottom line is that no one can say whether there was a breach of contract by the 36ers, or Hodge, unless they have read the contract. There may be cure periods in which a party can cure a breach within a stipulated time, arbitration clauses requiring disputes to be settled that way before termination and other remedies available or expressly stated in the contract before a party can terminate.

All speculation, if that.

DO you think the fact the Aussie dollar has gone through the ringer compared to the US dollar in recent times might have something to do with it? Actually, no, just taking a look now when he signed in November it was at it's low point, has strenghened a bit since then so that shouldn't be relevant.

Adelaide Now are making this big news, looks like he missed the law courts or for drugs or something.

Adelaide Now Poll watch:

Should the NBL ban Julius Hodge from playing again in Australia?

Yes, this is unforgivable 86% (893 votes)
No, that's too harsh 13% (143 votes)
Total votes Total of 1036 votes

(ps. 86+13 doesn't add up to 100)

Just imagining Boti over the shoulder of a graphic designer: "I had this great line about a 'court appearance' and a wanted poster. C'mon, it'll be great!"

If you do the maths, the percentages come to 86.20% and 13.80%, which added together makes 100.00%.

Both results have evidently been rounded down, where normally 13.8 would be rounded up to 14% (normally, .5 to .9 get rounded up).

Of course you then run the risk that the final result is 101% (e.g. 86.5% and 13.5% would both be rounded up to 87% and 14% respectively).

Whichever way you do the rounding, there's always chance that the final result won't exactly equal 100%; which is why for serious statistics percentages are usually shown with an least 2 decimal places.

Love the poster: very clever.
