Euroleague Final 4: David Andersen on fire

David Andersen has put together two of arguably his best ever Euroleague final four performances as his team Regal FC Barcelona officially finished third.

Andersen led his team with 24 points on 6/6 2PT and 3/6 3PT shooting in a semi-final in a 78-82 loss to his former team CSKA Moscow. He also 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot in 34min in a fine performance on the biggest stage ion Europe. Recap: http://linky.com.au/cbdk9

In the playoff for third against Greek team Olympiacos, Andersen led the way yet again in a fantastic 95-79 win. Andersen led all scorers with 20 points on 5/7 2PT and 3/5 3PT shooting to go with 4 rebounds in nearly 26min on court. Recap: http://linky.com.au/ewmpe

Draft Express have also recounted their highlights on players of interest for the NBA. Draft Express Recap: http://linky.com.au/uwqdw

It was interesting to read DE's thoughts on Australia's David Andersen:

"Also deserving of a quick mention is the outstanding play of David Andersen, who looked particularly motivated going up against his former team CSKA Moscow, who he decided to leave this summer. Andersen scored 24 points in 34 minutes, going 6/6 inside the arc and 3/6 from outside, to go along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Andersen, who we've believed is a sure-fire NBA rotation player for a number of years now, put his entire offensive arsenal on display, scoring on tough post-up moves inside the paint, some beautiful turnaround jumpers, by attacking the basket from the perimeter, making a handful of 3-pointers, finishing pick and rolls, and converting on pick and pop plays. It was a very impressive display, and would make a DVD that Atlanta Hawks GM Rick Sund would be wise to get a hand on."

Could Andersen finally be headed to Atlanta to play in the next NBA season? Atlanta should sure do with him IMO as a genuine backup forward.

Great results for Andersen in Europe yet again. Brett Brown must find a way to make use of this guy's scoring ability for the Boomers! His shooting should be a prime weapon that will have the added bonus of opening things up for Bogut near the rim.

It would be interesting to see him at Atlanta too. He certainly could have an impact as a rotation player. Might depend a bit on what happens at PF for the Hawks though - If Marv Williams stays, there isn't a lot Andersen can offer that he doesn't already do!

Thats a shame, Kent. If he could possibly take that cut just for one season, he could sure up a spot in another NBA team if he is given the adequate minutes to show his resume in the flesh. If it didnt work out, straight back to Europe and atleast he can say he had a go at the big time and help put Australian basketball on the map just a tad more.

DraftExpress interviewed David Andersen after his 3rd place playoff win and is helped shed light on his situation with Atlanta and his dreams of playing in the NBA...

"Andersen didn't hesitate to indicate his interest in playing for the Atlanta Hawks, or any other team that might be interested in his services."

"I just wish they would give me a straight answer either way. Every year it's the same thing. If they want me, great, but if not, I would like to go play somewhere else. I can't force the tender and go play on a non-guaranteed minimum contract, but I don't think I'm asking for crazy money either."

"Andersen has another year on his deal with Barcelona, but has a clear NBA escape clause in his contract..."

"What's most unfortunate for Andersen is that he had already received assurances from former Hawks GM Billy Knight that they would bring him over to the NBA last summer, but that plan went to naught once he was fired and replaced by Rick Sund, who said he needed another year to evaluate him. The Hawks have apparently had multiple teams try to acquire Andersen in a trade, but have been reluctant to deal him for fear that he may make them look foolish in another team's uniform. Based on the way Andersen has looked here in Berlin, that's a legitimate possibility."

And here is the latest news on David Andersen direct from the official Euroleague website in a pretty decent interview.

After a birlliant final four for the big Aussie, he is seriously getting some serious love from all corners of the globe - with the exception it seems from Atlanta...

Link: http://linky.com.au/m1so1

"By reaching the 2009 Final Four in Berlin, he has already set one distinctive record, becoming the first player to make the event with four different teams."

"Andersen took his first crown in 2001 with Kinder Bologna and his next two in 2006 and 2008 with CSKA Moscow."

"Except for injury once, you've played in the last six Final Fours"

The guy is a winner as his record in Europe shows...teams he plays on win. Let's hope Atlanta steps up to the plate this year...
