Sturt vs Eastern

Sturt beat Eastern, by around 10, for the first time in 7 games.

For Eastern, Jacob had 20something I think (11/32) and 13 boards.

For Sturt, Gower had 21 (7/14 and 7/11 FT I think) and 5, and Forman had 13 and 21.

At the game were Luke Schenscher (coming to watch his ex-AIS team mates Holmes and Forman, rather than watch Southern vs Forestville), and forum-poster EC.

Tigers beat Eagles 116-104. Was an OK game. Good atmosphere.

B Hodges hit 28, Gerlach 21. Pero was OK, nothing special.

In defense of Sturt, Williams was out injured and Bauer was in Darwin.

Two starters missing vs a dislocated finger on an otherwise full-strength team... Hmmm. ;)

But yes, good that Sturt finally got a win. Last time they matched up it was close and I thought Sturt should've won it.

Jacob took some of the ugliest fadeaways I've ever seen. There was one play where he clearly got past Oscar and had a barely contested path to the basket, but took a huge leaning shot (I thought he was going to fall flat on the ground) over to the left and it missed. If he'd gone straight in, I don't think anyone could've stopped him without fouling.

Norwood game had a bit of action! Januszke was giving Pocahontas a bit, and he just mauled him! (short fuse, anyone? :)) Gerlach got ejected for coming off the bench, about 3 other techs as well (unrelated).

pitty bout holmes getting 37, 14 and 7 the nite before on the top team, carrying the mavs. then backing up for 28 and 13, once again playing with help only for brad davis. but issac oscar was great for 13 pts, big time......or maybe not.....you decide

What's Oscar got to do with that? Someone said that Eastern was playing its top player with a finger injury. I said that Sturt were playing without 2 starters. Both facts and fair points.

And then that I thought Jacob took an unnecessary fadeaway that could've been an easy basket otherwise. He was player of the week and he's clearly the top player in the ABL.

Also, I think that 13 points and 21 rebounds from Oscar after 25 and 17 the night before would've been one of a number of decent performances over the weekends games.

(BTW, I edited out your email address assuming that you wanted to preserve the hidden identity.)

hey mum,
Obviously weren't at the game were you? No-one is doubting Holmes credentials But Sundays' 11 of 32 was not Jacobs best performance of the year.
Forman had the most dominant 13 point game I have ever seen, he completely owned the keyway!
As for injuries (and maybe excuses Jirachi), we know that Williams and Bauer were out, Gower was on one leg and was not expected to play after injuring his ankle against North the night before, Hakendorf (who was probably Sturts unsung hero) dislocated his finger and was told by the doctors not to play.
If i was Eastern would be more worried about the complete non-factor that Trebilcock has become in the last 2 games against the Sabres when as recently as last year has always been their greatest problem!

I think people are over rating Hackendorf. On the weekend he only had 9 but they were all lay-ups. he doesn't penetrate, shoot the smart shots or play any great defence. I think Nathan Vaughan and Adam Benson played terrific. As soon as they came on thew intensity lifted. Adam Benson played great defence on Jacob Holmes keeping him to just 5 points in the second quarter. People need to actually watch the game before making judgements.
