Isaac - people posting with no associated Gravatar email address coming up as a missing image for me. I think the default (http://www.hoops.com.au/sa/images/t.gif) could be missing or something?

So.... we finally killed the old forum. I was wondering how long that would take

KingJames, the warnings were it crashing every day for the last two years and I should've dealt with it earlier. Oh well.

It's still running like an absolute slug though, so I need to sort that out. Unfortunately, changing the indexes seems to either take a very long time or hang the database tool (haven't waited long enough to see if it's actually working or just hanging).

Wow, well looks like switching the replies table from InnoDB to MyISAM has made a huge difference. Went from timing out all the time to being pretty responsive for a site hosted on the other side of the world.

Hope that's improved it for everyone else as well.

Skin, critique away. The previous forum had a white background too, or are you referring to the fact that the white here is applied to more regions? (e.g., sidebars)

Some people are not huge fans of the general pastel-blue of the index, so I might try to improve that a bit when I next get time. Any ideas - throw them in this thread.

First post on the new format- had to admit I nearly had a heart attack when I tried to see if the site was back up- I thought someone else had already taken Hoops SA and was using it for something else!
Isaac if it's not too much trouble is it possible to have the Last 200 back at some stage- I used to find that really handy for popular topics that would slide further down if there were lots of new topics posted after it, or is there another way to do that?

Love the new layouts etc..but can i agree on the amount of "white"...Maybe its my old eyes..but seems harder to read?

Any chance of a "stay logged in" feature using cookies or some such? Every time I come back to the site I have to login again.

HAHA, will add in paging at some point and better ways to traverse old content. The 200 script was pretty database-intensive unfortunately.

Anon, you'll need cookies enabled in your browser - could that be it? After you post with your alias in the Name field, when you see that "Please wait..." message, that's it logging the alias in a cookie so it's remembered for future posts.

hereschenes, it's maintaining my logged-in state OK if I leave and return in a new browser window, etc. Could you have fairly aggressive settings with cookies or something?

When I first came on my name already appeared- I use more than one computer to post though depending on where I am at the time eg work computer pretending to do work but really on here, home laptop, g/f's laptop if she puts it down for a moment and walks away it's fair game...!

Nice job. I'm with the others re. the coloured bits though.

I think its just that its all so different to what we're used to! Wait a bit before changing too much, we may all adapt or we may still hate a particular feature, like the all white background.

Podman I think it just seems bright because it's different to the orange we're used to.
Give it a chance and before you know it you won't notice!

Suggestion FWIW .

Suggesting a very subtle neutral grey tone in the backround running down from the forum index to the key line below this topic reply box .
It will frame the content boxes and draw the eyes in whilst reducing glare .
Ties in with colour scheme and think it would appropriately separate the screen and aid the overall aesthetic .

I miss the number of reads to topics and replies...

bbgun, as Isaac suggested if your email addy starts with say a capital letter as mine does, I went in up the top to my profile and changed the first letter to lowercase and it seems to have made all the difference.

Isaac, just wondered if there was a reason that each post in a thread goes from oldest to newest scrolling down? Would it be easier to use going the other way is is it not possible to set it up that way?
