Opals Assistant Coaches: Timms, Buckle, Brown

Basketball Australia has selected three assistant coaches to work alongside head coach Carrie Graf as Australia's women’s basketball team gears up for the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women.

Three-time Olympian Michele Timms, Townsville Fire head coach Peter Buckle and Australian Institute of Sport women’s program head coach Phil Brown are the coaches selected.

Surely Timms doing the Opals and Boomers gig is a conflict of interests!

Ahaha, nice DB5. Let's not pretend that any of these coaches won't have conflicts of interest; thats the way the cookie crumbles. Heck, look at Graffie.. she practically dangled an Opals squad spot in front of Wilson's face in order to rope her into playing for Canberra, and will no doubt use the same bait as a lure for other players in the future. Its not as though Jan Stirling didn't display bias in picking her squads either.

Astor, I thought Jan Stirling stopped coaching the lightning when she picked up the opals job.

Anyway, all coaches get accused of favouritism in selections, from Lindsay Gaze ( Andrew and Victorians), Adrian Hurley (Longley, Bradke and Vlahov) to Brian G ( any sydney player).

However it is true that Brian G and now "supercoach" Graf's respective NBL and WNBL teams rosters have consistently seemed to attract those with Nat aspirations, far more so than ever occured for Gaze and Stirling, or even Tom for that matter.

Of course it was the ex AIS WNBL premiership players ( Jackson, Veal et al) who refused to play for the (ex AIS and) then Capitals coach McHugh , that got him sacked and Graf recruited to Canberra in the first place.
