NBL experiencing online surge

BA reports that the interest in the NBL online is experiencing a surge.

BA Website: http://linky.com.au/ru602

After the first full month of the new season, the NBL's LiveStats offering saw 54 031 unique browsers generating 7 million page impressions for the month of October.

During the same period in 2008, 32 663 unique browsers generated 3.38 million page impressions when viewing LiveStats.

Today’s figures represent an increase of 65 per cent in unique browsers and a 108 per cent increase in page impressions.

The NBL uses the FIBA LiveStats system developed by Sporting Pulse, which is in use with over 20 professional leagues around the world, delivering scores and statistics to fans in real time as well as play-by-play analysis and shot charts.

Basketball Australia Chief Executive Larry Sengstock said the reliability of the FIBA LiveStats system, which was developed for the sport’s international governing body, had played a large role in building trust with NBL fans and was being reflected in the increase in online audience.

Thoughts on why the stats say what they say?

It's amazing how quickly people start to utlise things when they actually work properly. While those stats showing improvement are good, the league is probably 5 years behind where they need to be because of past failings.

Now if they sort out the player stats on the NBL website, they might actually get more hits there too.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is Euro traffic. Euros love betting basketball and the timezone suits degenerate gamblers :)

BA, show us the geo breakdown!

TC2 - good point! They are 2 games behind in most cases. Same as many of the feature stories hitting way too late and the ladder not being live.

More hits from people clicking around trying to find basic things like a frickin' stats list with per-game stats...

More hits from people trying to get a score update on LiveStats, when it becomes StaticStats and a timeout has taken ten minutes...

daddy0 it certainly used to time out for me last year but this year its been without any issues at all, except for that strange game early were all the scores were in one quarter.

The only strange issue I have had this year is the game where Adelaide hosted Melbourne and the scoreboard showed Adelaide winning comfortably, then the ticker kept on piling points on to Mark Worthington and then then next thing you know, the Tigers were on top. Weird.
