Cats and Blaze fined for "post-game incident"
The General Manager of the National Basketball League, Chuck Harmison, has ruled that a total of $3000 in fines must be paid by the Perth Wildcats and the Gold Coast Blaze for their roles in a post-game incident on Saturday.
The confrontation occurred on court at Challenge Stadium at the conclusion of the Perth versus Gold Coast match when Wildcats guard Stephen Weigh took exception to the post-game celebrations of Blaze players James Harvey and Chris Goulding.
The referee evaluator reported the incident to the League and recommended Weigh be investigated for pushing/striking.
After reviewing the game footage the matter was dealt with by Harmison under provision of NBL rules.
"Each team will be fined $1500 for its part in the incident," Harmison said.
“This was not a brawl as some media reported it and there were no punches thrown, but it was far from pretty and had the potential to escalate into something far worse.
“While we admire the passion displayed by both teams we cannot condone incendiary behaviour of this nature.”
