One of the photos in the link shows Shawn Bradley in the background. That certainly would have been a sight to behold - the two paragons of grace that they both were.

Interesting career - he never quite turned out the way i personally hoped he would when he was a young'un.

Cest la vie... Will miss the Bear more though.

Sam Mackinnon also set to retire. Interesting times for the NBL.

Another guy you hate on the court but have to respect the game he plays.

Good that the NBL got the chance to have him play the end of his career here and not overseas.

How many players will be left from those Victorian teams of the Magic/Giants eras?

Thought it'd be Mackinnon retiring for sure but that Anstey might be convinced to go around one more time and try to finish on a healthy season and finals run?

Lots of opportunities for young players next season.

Whilst losing higher profile players like Anstey and Mackinnon is not necessarily a good thing for a league that is struggling for publicity and media exposure, the opportunities that present themselves for younger Australian players is much needed. Heaven knows it could yet spark the NBL and probvide a new generation of NBL names....(one can hope!)

What does that leave the NBL with though as a marketing tool/face of the league type.

Worthington?
CJ Bruton?
Kirk Penney although can't see pushing a Kiwi really helping market in Aus too much even though he is a great player.
Ballinger, Redhage, Saville, Tradgah - hardly highlight reel players.

I dont see Anstey doing too much for the face of the game...great player but as far as promoting....

Gaze is and will always be the face...

The NBL desperately needs a Lauren Jackson equivalent right now...

The fact is that the best of our men play overseas whereas the WNBL is not far behind the WNBA in terms of pay, but is way behinmd Europe when it comes to the cash. As for standard, the WNBL is right up there and not far behind the WNBA or best European teams.

The NBL needs to see this as an opportunity to unearth younger players.

Totally agree Curtley. New faces in a "new" league...

Went out to Essendon , with his good friend Dustin Fletcher , but they couldn't find any footy boots big enough to fit - but basketball shoes did, so he took up basketball.
Can't play/train properly anymore with hip problems.
Would like to give back to the sport, maybe do a bitta coaching juniors - got 2 children ( 6 & 8 , I think he said) enjoys watching them and the others playing.
