Taipans fan to shoot for $100k tonight

CAIRNS MAN TO TAKE SHOT OF A LIFETIME IN OAMPS $100,000 SHOOTOUT

Cairns Taipans' fan Randy Ware will be given the chance to hit one shot to change his life tonight when he takes part in the OAMPS $100,000 Shootout at Game One of the 2010 National Basketball League Grand Final series at Challenge Stadium in Perth.

If Ware can hit the shot from halfcourt during the three-quarter time break of the Perth Wildcats-Wollongong ahm Hawks game, he will win himself $100,000 in cash courtesy of the NBL’s official sponsors, OAMPS Insurance Brokers.

18 year old Ware, who lives in Cairns, far north Queensland, earned himself the chance to take the shot after demonstrating his shooting prowess at a Taipan home game during the regular season. At past selected NBL games, one lucky fan was chosen out of the audience to vie for a chance to win the shot at $100,000. In order to win the grand prize each selected fan had the chance to shoot ten shots in one minute, with the fan scoring the most points winning the trip to Perth to shoot for the cash.

Ware made an amazing six three pointers out of his ten shots, giving him the highest score of all the competitors and the trip to Perth.
Whilst the chance to win so much money with a single shot is tantalising, just winning a trip to Game One of the NBL Grand Final series is already almost beyond Ware’s wildest dreams.

After being informed of his good fortune in being the winning competitor, the young indigenous lad told the Cairns Taipans staff that he had never even been out of Cairns before.

Although the flight to Western Australia might be a bit daunting, Ware said he was very excited to be travelling to Game One and will be taking his older brother for support when he attempts to hit the lucky shot.

OAMPS became proud sponsors of the NBL last year. They first started their association with the NBL a number of years ago, with club sponsorship of the Melbourne Tigers. They were so pleased with their arrangements with the Tigers that they decided to have a widespread relationship with the NBL as a whole. OAMPS has operations in the UK, and a sister company Crombie Lockwood, in New Zealand. OAMPS specialises in providing specifically designed insurance protection packages to their customers.
Best of luck to him!

If he wins he'll probably donate it towards his struggling team!
Hope he makes it too.

I went to the Socceroos game on Wednesday and a girl had the opportunity to kick a soccer ball through a target for $1M bucks.

Worst attempt ever - target was about 20 mtrs away, and it was a circle just under a metre in diameter about 3 metres off the ground.

I kid you not, the girl didn't even take a run up. Just stood behind the ball, pulled her leg back and kicked it. It went about 5 metres on the full then rolled another 10 metres or so.

I would have taken a week off work and just kicked soccer balls at targets all day. Worth the effort for a shot at tax free $1M

Tax free? How

tax free - because it's not income. Winnings for competitions and lotteries aren't considered income. She doesn't go out every day and earn $$ from kicking a ball through a hoop.
