Secret Tiger

Surely your not claiming credit for Spehr. He learnt all his basketball at West until last year when he was poached

Greenwood was all-star 5 at the recent Albert Schweitzer Tourney...I doubt he has transferred to footy.

He actually was turned back to his club when he first approached Sturt.

And I know you won't beleive a hoops poster, but go and ask the South Coaching director. He was there when it happened.

Footyfreak,
No the players picked are not "consolation prizes"
Every single one of those guys above has international experience, either at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament or at the AYOF.
As LC said 8 members of the AST team are in the team and the other 4 new faces were all part of the AYOF team. Australia won the AYOF and the AST. They got in because they worked hard and were victorious on the international level.

Southern Tiger?
Rather than banging on every so often about Spehr leaving West or what Tiger Dicko says Southern Blogs thinks he overheard, how about dealing in some facts for a change.
Fact: Spehr has played for Sturt for nearly 18 months now
Fact: He was not poached by Sturt
Fact: He was not "turned back to his club" once HE made the decision to change

If it is the case that this kid felt comfortable enough to confide in, or discuss his future with a Sturt coach he highly respects, surely that says a whole lot more about West than it does about Sturt. Is this the only junior transfer in history? Put it to bed please, its relevance here is all a bit twisted.

HAIL MacDUB - Thanks for your wise comments and respect for these young athletes.

And - Congratulations to Nathan Spehr and Big John Marriott for doing SA proud. Go get em boys and don't let the pea brains piss on your parade.

Those selected certainly deserve it. I hope that Greenwood is not travelling just so he can catch up on his school work as he is a gun and will be required for the junior world champ's.

Never been cut from the EMUS training squad and has missed out only one AIS training squad since U16s - that was early in the year prior to leaving West.

2 things.
1, I know that Hugh Greenwood didn't go on this trip due to exam commitments at school. I've been told that by one of the other players who also went to the Schweitzer Tournament. It's been common knowledge for some time.

2. Jason Cadee is U/20 - too old for Emus.

This is also Hugh Greenwood's last year in U/19's, so he'll be too old for U/19 World C'ships next year.

bonnie, Under 19 FIBA is our Under 20. Cadee is too old as he is Under 20 this year. Greenwood is one year younger (our Under 19, FIBA Under 18) so is eligible for Under 19 Worlds next year.

The Emus are 4-1 on their current Chinese tour, coming from behind in their last game against China to win by 2. This followed a previous loss to the same Chinese team earlier on - their only loss to date on tour.

The Emu's also recorded a comfortable win over a USA select team. They next face Slovenia.

Drmic, Aldridge and Creek have so far been the standout performers.

The Emu's played a shocker in losing to Slovenia by 9 early this morning. Aldridge and Drmic were best for the Emus.

The Emu's play 3 more games on tour before returning home.

Emu's reversed the result against Slovenia, winning by 4 in their latest game. Aldridge and Drmic once again led the way for the Emu's who now improve to a 6-2 record on tour with one final game against China to come.

Emu's rounded off their tour of China with a convincing 12 point win over host China to finish with a 7-2 record.

Hadziomerovic, Creek and Spehr were the standouts for the Emu's in their win.
