NH: Wimbledon - longest tennis match in history!

The longest tennis match in tennis history is still not yet complete at Wimbledon, with the game being suspended due to bad light.

American 23rd seed John Isner and qualifier Nicolas Mahut of France are currently playing a 2nd round contest, and are locked at 59-59 in the fifth set.

They have been playing each other for exactly 10 hours, with the 5th set alone so far taking 7 hours and 6 minutes! In fact their 5th set alone breaks the full-match record of 6 hours and 33 minutes set at the 2004 French Open.

the stats are so far amazing - Isner has 98 aces, Mahut 95, with both eclipsing the previous high in a match at any tournament which stood at 78. There have been 881 points, 612 alone in the fifth set. Isner has compiled 218 winners, Mahut 217. Isner has only 44 unforced errors, Mahut 37.

The scoreboard currently reads like this:

4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 6-7 (3-7) 59-59

Ch9 covered Wimbledon - whereby Sam Newman said
'A flash score is 157 all. - It just struck me ...
kinda funny.
Understand the biggest crowd and world press ever out on court 18 and I think the Queen went..
But Ch9 went to the Cricket, instead.

John Isner broke Nicolas Mahut to win the fifth set 70-68, breaking a run of 168 consecutive holds that began in the second set, all the way back on Tuesday.

There were 980 points overall, and Mahut won more, 502-478. There were 711 points in the fifth set, and Mahut won more, 365-34 - but still lost!

The 183 games and 11 hours and 5 minutes contest, both fugures exceeded the existing records of 112 and 6:33 respectively. The 138 games and 8:11 in the fifth set alone, were also records. Isner's 112 aces in the match, and Mahut's 103, both much higher than the old mark of 78. The combined 490 winners (Isner had more, 246-244) and only 91 unforced errors (Isner had more, 52-39).

Simply amazing!
