Stankovic cup teams, July 28-Aug 1

In the event draw released overnight, the Boomers will square off against Asian champions China in their first game at the Stankovic Continental Cup on Wednesday 28 July at 7:30pm local time before what is sure to be a packed and hostile crowd at the Liugang Gymnasium in Liuzhou, China.

The Chinese are ranked as the number nine men's team in the world by basketball’s international governing body FIBA, just above the Boomers in 11th.

In Game Two, the Boomers will face off against powerful European team Slovenia, who are ranked 20th in the world, on Thursday 29 July at 4:00PM local time.

Australia will then take on Iran (ranked 21st globally) in their last preliminary game on Friday 30 July at 4:00PM local.

Australia should be rated as favourites to defend the Stankovic cup based on who is playing.

Another chance to boost the profile of the sport back here if they can win it again.

Is One HD going to broadcast the event??? For mine it would have bigger interest than tha Argentina series.

Eurosport has covered similar tournaments in the past (ie. Diamond Ball in China in 2008) so fingers crossed someone jumps on board and covers it.

If Fox have the rights to the Worlds you would think they'd like to build up the hype too and show this.

They replayed last year's Stankovic Cup about 3 months after it was played at like 2am for a few nights.

Got this reply from BA on the TV coverage matter:

We're still waiting to confirm if there will be local coverage. We’ll let you know.

I hope ONE are considering it, and if it isnt too expensive you would imagine they are given the decent ratings the Argentina series attracted. It would be a big step for the game to start getting coverage of overseas tournaments, particularly in a friendly timeslot.

Im pretty confident the Boomers will beat China and Iran, however Slovenia can be dangerous depending on who they bring.
Like most countries, I wouldn't expect the Slovenians to bring their superstars, but if they did they would be a tough team to beat:

Bostjan Nachbar, Goran Dragic, Beno Udrih, Primoz Brezec, Sasha Vucajic, as well as a host of players at top European powerhouses.

Dragic and Vujacic in the same team?? Did you watch the Conference Finals!! Australia should beat slovenia. They are missing Erezam Lorbek who was there best player in eurobasket and he contributes alot inside and outside. Mills will be able to handle dragic and Nachbar wont be able to compete with the likes of Jawai, nielsen and andersen.
