Hoops FNBL 2010/11

Hey Guys

With the season now offically launched, it's probably time to launch the FNBL season as well.

I will be running 2 leagues this season.

LEAGUE 1 will consist of everyone who played last year. Xztatik, DB5, TR, Lockie, Bizzy, Beantown, Statman & myself. (Please let me know if you do not wish to play)

Expressions of Interest are now officially open for people wishing to participate in LEAGUE 2. These will close at 5pm this Wednesday. In the event that we have more than 8 people wish to play, preference will be given to more regular/longer users of Hoops.com.au with the final desicion being made by the league commissioner. This will be announced on Thursday.

The 2 leagues will run seperatley for the season, but with the eventual league winners playing off in a Superbowl style Final.

With the intention of this continuing next season and beyond, we will also introduce promotion/relagation for the 2 bottom teams in league 1 and the 2 top teams in league 2.

I hope to kick the draft off this weekend. This will either be run through Google groups (like last year) or if prefered on Facebook.

The season will run mostly the same to last year with the scoring coming from Virtual Sports.

More info once the leagues are sorted.

Just confirming I'm in and would prefer Google groups.

Also, just wondering if we will have enough players this season that we can allow some to be selected at more than one position? (Eg, Holmes would be a PF or a SF)

If it can be done, it would make it easier to do trades. Last season it was very hard to trade because you had no real flexibility in your roster.

Obviously, we'd have to agree positions before the season, with the Commish's word being final and no changes in season.

What do you think guys?

Beantown - last season they were purely classed as just Forwards (no distinction between between small or power)

We didnt offer the Guard/Forward or Forward/Centre option though. Mostly to make it a little easier on me.

I'll be putting a player list together over the next few days, so I will look at it then.

Id like to join this year if thats ok?

There is also another FNBL run on ozhoops if anyone would like to join there too? We are looking for a few (5) new entries to fill our last league there.

Cheers

I guess with an extra team (Syd) in this year there will be more scope to do some trades as there will be more players left without a team.

TR - any early indications on who you like as your initial imports this year? I just want to be sure I keep away from them!

For League 1 folk, here is something for you to start thinking about.

the draft order will be the reverse of last seasons finishing order. Meaning Bizzy has the #1 draft pick.

DRAFT ORDER
Bizzy
TR
Beantown

DB5
Lockie
Statman
Xztatik

I like that.

Gives me first waiver pick and I think the depth of stars is pretty good this year without any standout top picks.

Scoring is based on the NBL Dream Team comp (nbl.virtualsports.com.au). Skip runs a draft over google groups/email in which we select our 10 players from the total NBL player pool. We then select 5 starters, 3 benchies and a captain each week and play each other.

Yeah you do BS, taking advantage of the scheduling was the main reason I won last year I think but it's a bit harder this year. 2 game rounds are getting rare while 3 game rounds are extinct.

Big Sexy - They have pretty much summed it up. You can trade players between teams and recruit free agents.
And as discussed, if your player has 2 games in the one round, you earns points from both games. It means you have to select your line up carefully as you may have players not playing at all one week.
X - If I was confident the draft could be done in 10 days, I would say yes. I will have a look at last years draft and get back to you.

Still got until 5pm today to register your interest for League 2.

In the meantime, feel free to have a look at the current player list I have and see if I have missed anyone or you think that someone is in the wrong position. With a lot of the Swingmen, I have had to go forward rather than guard with them to ensure there is close to equal number of each. Everyone will be required to draft 2 centres, 4 forwards and 4 guards.

More is required, but I am reluctant to go ahead with the 2nd league with people who arent keen and dedicated.

There is nothing worse in this sort of Fantasy league than when people drop off during the season.

Sweet. We can just re-post the 'Sixers too small' topics and auto-replace "Ballinger" with "Petrie". And maybe the same with Perth (since they didn't retain Schenscher and Harris) since Matt Knight is probably shorter than Balls.

Reply #289510 | Report this post

Statman
Years ago

Agreed Isaac, the too small argument isnt really valid in the NBL. Sure Schensher will tower over Balls but Balls will run rings around him away from the hoop!

That being said Petrie is happy to get in the paint and mix it physically with anyone whereas I see Ballinger as being more of a finesse player who likes to do his damage outside the keyway.

No doubt both coaches know how to get the best out of their players.

Reply #289518 | Report this post

Haha, not questioning anyones dedication personally ox, my concern is that if we are getting people to join just to fill the numbers, they are probably less likely to see the season out, especially if they aren't winning.

This makes it crap for those who are playing properly when it comes to things like trying to arrange trades and more importantly, the good fun banter involved.

I don't want to run it with fewer numbers for a few reasons.
1. I already have a speadsheet set out for 8 and it is a pain in the arse to do them differently.
2. It takes a bit of the skill out of it as you don't have to rely so much on making sure you pick the right lesser known players to complete your roster as the talent isnt spread as much.
3. It also wouldnt be fair to have the league winners play off against each other for the same reason as above.

I'll keep the League 2 option open for a few more days and we'll see what happens.

Due to lack of interest, I'm afraid I will only be running the one league again this year. Sorry to those of you that were interested in joining. hopefully there will be more interested next year so we can begin a second league.

For those of you in League 1, it will all be done through the same google group as last year.

The draft will commence from 9am this coming Sunday the 26th September. I would like to see it completed at least 1 week before the season starts, so do try to log in regulary to see if it is your pick. There will be a 12 hour time limit on each pick.

I will post a full set of rules on the group shortly.

Each team will play each other 3 times with playoffs run over the last 4 games.

Good luck.
