Tigers Vs Breakers Oct 28

Melbourne make the trip across the Tasman this week to face the NZ Breakers at home at the NSEC.
NZ are 2 wins from 2 games but were very lucky last week to sneak in front against Perth. Melbourne are yet to register a win this season and were comprehensively beaten by the Wildcats in their last game giving up a massive 17 turnovers.
Stuff.co.nz have reported that Kirk Penney was expected to be flying into NZ in the weekend and is also expected to suit up against the Tigers on Thursday night. Should be interesting if the Breakers will continue with their shared offense or revert to Penney carrying the bulk of the scoring load.
The Breakers have all the momentum going into this game and will be tough especially at home.
Add arguably the best player in the league in Kirk Penney and you would have to think that it is a reasonably safe bet on the Breakers ending up 3-0. I think the mobility of the Breakers will be too much for the lumbering Tigers and if the Breakers can replicate any of Perths defensive pressure which totally put the Tigers off their game, they will win comfortably.

Even without Penney i cant picture NZ losing. yeh it was tight between them and Perth, but thats Perth. Tigers at this rate will be known as the land of the giant wooden spoons.

It seems each season the Breakers get a dream run at the start of the season.

The Tigers look like a team in real trouble this season. They need to gel real quick, or else their season will be over in a few weeks. Height is not a problem, turnovers are woeful at the moment, so is it just bad plays, or does the team need to throw the keys in the bowl to get to know each other better?

They have a 10 day break after this game, so they might want to think about how they will spend that time productively.

Would be night to see Penney suit up. They might start him on the bench for a grand entrance with 2 minutes to go in quarter 1. That would bring the roof down and cause a few to choke on their battered sav.

Breaker's bench should be cleared, much to the delight of the mussel chomping, sav blanc swilling corporates courtside. Cheers!

lol Jack Toft

if the Tigers go down by a decent margin in this game, will they be forced to make roster changes or will they persevere with this flawed team and risk the wooden spoon.
Last season the Tigers looked ugly early but got their shit together later in the season, do you think this team can do the same without any roster changes?

Breakers bench have actually played quite well so far this season. Pledger is healthy and contributing, Braswell has been very effective coming off the bench and Cory Webster looks like he can hack it in the NBL these days. Shame that development player BJ Anthony has injured his ankle and won't be playing.

it will be interesting to see how they play away against perth or hawks. if they can win those kinds of games then i think they will be unstoppable.
