Rondo dishes 24 dimes

Was amazed to check the box scores today and see Rondo had 24 assists! Thats over 50 points (given some would be 3 point shots) coming off Rondo's passing! Seems a lot of the point guards have been putting up huge assist numbers to start the season, are they becoming less selfish/better floor generals? Or are the statisticians more generous with their interpretation of an 'assist' this NBA season?

Definently the statisticans have become more generous with their interpretation of an assist. Nowadays, it seems like the receiving player can take a dribble or two and the player will still be awarded an assist.

Theres no denying Rondo is an amazing passer, but alot of his assists come off Ray coming off screens and running the pick and pop with KG. A majority of them are just pretty basic passes. That been said he does throw 3 or so assists a game that make you say "How? "

MACDUB, I think Rondo makes a lot of his passes LOOK easy because he is so good at setting up the play. He uses great fakes to freeze players, has great eye contact with smart offensive players like KG, Allen and Davis and uses his speed and ball handling to maneuver the defence where he wants them. That is why he is able to consistently make so many 'easy' passes, where most NBA players would simply get their pass picked off if they tried the same thing.

I think Tommy Heinsohn said he got close to the Celtics record, held by Bob Cousy with 26 in one game. Apparently the Celtics put up 173 on the Knicks in that game!

This blokes court vision as well as Chris Paul's are amazing. They really read the court well and know how to find team-mates. Throw in some scoring and board crashing and it's a top effort.

Cousy actually had 28. The record is Skiles' 30. Sessions had 24 as a rookie and a lot of other players have hit the 24 mark as well - crazy.

Speaking to a BA stats guy once (a long time ago) it was explained that the nba have a different definition of an assist to basically everyone else. at the time it was explained how stockton earned a bucket of assists passing to malone in the low block - even when malone had to go to work to score.
