NBL Round 8 Player of the Week

They've been itching to give it to him!

A standout National Basketball League performance from Melbourne Tigers' point guard Corey Williams in his team’s win over the Gold Coast Blaze has seen the man known as 'Homicide’ named as Player of the Week FOR Round Eight of the iiNet NBL Championship.

Williams had 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists in his team’s 82-78 victory over the Blaze at the State Netball Hockey Centre (AKA ‘The Cage’) on Saturday night. Williams went 10-of-19 from the field to shoot the ball at 53%, and also made four of his six free throws.
Runners up are: Bruton (23 points), Khazzouh (19.5/10.5/3 in two losses), M Knight (18 and 7) and Tovey (18/8/5).

But wait, there's more!
Others who were in the running for Player of the Week included Gary Ervin (Wollongong), Adam Ballinger (Adelaide), Ira Clark (Gold Coast), Kirk Penney (New Zealand), Gary Wilkinson (New Zealand), Mika Vukona (New Zealand), Alex Loughton (Cairns) and Daniel Johnson (Adelaide).

I suspect they do the honourable mentions to spread the love, give more writers more to cover. e.g., your team had no one win it or come close, but Bob McDingdong of the Cairns SuperSportsBlog can talk up Joe d'Pinkeldrahf for his 12 points and 4 rebounds getting a mention by the league. Maybe.

But then, if you wanted that, bring back 48 minute games so we have more 30 point and 15 rebound games, triple doubles, development players getting a run, etc.

I thought Clark had the best game of the week but stuffed it up on the second one. Fair call on Homicide I guess.
