There is a condition called Central Auditory Processing Disorder, when noise levels are high in stadiums these Basketballers find it difficult to filter the background noises and tune into the coach's instructions. Often with the result being the coach screaming instructions at these players, them being dragged for not listening etc. It would be a worthwhile tool for these types of athletes. It is a diagnosed condition, Flinders Medical Centre speech pathology unit has done lots of research into this condition and the impact in the classroom and in everyday life of having it. It is diagnosed by an Audiologist.

If we are going to be progressive perhaps for these types of athletes it should be allowed. The rest of the population obviously then would be a matter for discussion.

Could this not be dangerous to the player? With a knock to ear from an elbow, I would suspect this could do some serious damage.

Not to mention the fact that the way some coaches go on, you would not be able to hear yourself think...

Not to mention that it could become harder to hear your teammates with an ear piece in with the coach barking orders.

Thats why players with this condiiton should play footy at least the runner can give you the coaches instructions.

Is it really that hard to get an instruction from the coach from the sideline in the first instance?

True Anon, and football is less technical so any meathead can run around. No need to even hear the runners insrtuctions.

It doesn't seem to hurt Jack Bauer in 24 when he gets a knock to the head or tortured. He always seems to get straight back up and keep saving the day.

Hmmm, maybe you are onto something...

...that fictional TV shows and characters can somehow be related to reality...
