Charity Baskets: Raising money for flood relief

If you're in Melbourne on January 30th, please support this great charity initiative by Daniel Eade. If you're not in Melbourne, please pass this on to any basketball fans you know over there:

BASKETBALL STARS STAND TALL TO RAISE MONEY FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

The biggest basketball stars of yesterday are lacing up the boots one more time to raise money for Queensland, Northern NSW, Carnarvon WA and Victoria after the devastating floods of the last few weeks.

Seven-time NBL MVP Andrew Gaze headlines an extraordinary amount of talent that will return to the court at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on January 30th at 12pm.

Gaze will be joined by Chris Anstey (NBL MVP 2006 and 2008), Lanard Copeland, Darryl McDonald, Marcus Timmons, Brett Rainbow, Andrew 'The Microwave' Parkinson, Darryl ‘The Ice-Man’ Pearce, Frank Drmic, Darren Lucas and Adonis Jordan, plus a host of other big names to be announced this week.

In response to overwhelming anticipated need, Variety the children’s charity launched a Flood Appeal to help provide grass roots assistance to sick, disadvantaged and children with special needs touched by this natural disaster.

Daniel Eade, the organizer of the event, said, "All Australians have been deeply scarred by the devastation of the Queensland floods. The loss of life has been sickening".

“I felt I needed to do something. After speaking to Variety the children’s charity, who will be in charge of all the donations, I made a phone call to Andrew Gaze, and once he said ‘Yes’ the ball just started rolling. ‘Charity Baskets’ was born.”

Gaze retired from the NBL in 2005 after 21 seasons, and during that time he appeared in five Olympic games and played in the NBA with the Washington Bullets and San Antonio Spurs. Gaze, Anstey, Copeland and Jordan all have NBA experience.

The game will also reunite Gaze and Copeland, the dynamic duo were a weekly highlight reel with their famous 'Alley-Oop' play getting fans out of their seats.
