WNBL postpones Fire-Flames game due to Yasi

ROUND 16 WNBL SCHEDULE CHANGE AS A RESULT OF CYCLONE YASI

Due to the threats imposed by incoming Cyclone Yasi, the Women's National Basketball League has decided to postpone the upcoming Round 16 clash between the Townsville McCafe` Fire and Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames originally scheduled to tip-off Friday, 4 February at 7.00pm AEDT at SUSAC.

The game will now be played during the week of Round 18, on Tuesday, 15 February at 7.00pm AEDT at SUSAC.

With the Category Five cyclone expected to hit the coast of Queensland later tonight, with the most intense winds predicted to strike between Cairns and Townsville, Townsville players and staff, along with all citizens of the area are currently preparing for the worst, with some players having already left the area for safety.
With airports closed until further notice, effects on travel in and out of the area have obviously been significantly hampered, making the upcoming fixture untenable. In addition, with dangers to safety high, along with predictions of excessive damage to the area, the decision to reschedule the clash allows all Townsville Fire personnel to focus on their own safety and that of their loved ones during this dangerous time.

Basketball Australia CEO, Larry Sengstock explained that the scheduling change was the most suitable arrangement considering the extreme circumstances facing Townsville and northern Queensland.
"Under the current and serious circumstances, rescheduling the upcoming Townsville versus Sydney Uni game to Tuesday, February 15 was the only reasonable solution available, which allows the Townsville organisation to concentrate on more pressing matters, such as their own safety and the safety of their families," said Sengstock
“Our thoughts are with the people of north Queensland during this time, and we certainly hope that everyone remains safe and well over the next few of days, and that our friends in Queensland are able to bounce back quickly,” he said.
