Blaze may play games in Brisbane

This is interesting. Heard something a few weeks back about a possible relocation of the Blaze to Brisbane. Maybe they're easing people into it...

The Gold Coast Blaze could be forced to play at least two home matches in Brisbane next season because the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is booked out on numerous weekends on the NBL calendar.

The Gold Coast Bulletin understands draft plans for the NBL draw included five weekends where the Blaze could not be accommodated at home, but rescheduling is likely to leave them homeless for two.

It would mean those clashes could be moved to the Brisbane Convention Centre.
Thought one of the comments was interesting:

Here we go again, the same reasons that the NBL got rid of the Gold Coast Rollers basketball team. When do we finally have stability in a Gold Coast NBL franchise?

Matt's comment is a bit harsh.

Gold Coast Convention Centre is the best venue in the NBL and surprisingly there's a lot of competition for its use.

The NBL with its small crowds, small venue hire income and small additional revenue has to face the reality that they're at the bottom of the list when it comes to events.

If you want to use big, new, world class venues then there has to be some give.

I hope they bring their Gold Coast crowds because Brisbane won't be attending.
That's like expecting Sixers fans to show up in droves after you take their team off them, but get say, Melbourne to go play some games in Adelaide.
At least they admit its for scheduling conflict and not for the reason that they reckon Brisbane will warm to it, they won't.
Even in a game of two up Brisbane and Gold Coast have a fierce rivalry when it comes to competing.

Carrara indoor stadium the old home of the Rollers should be redeveloped and turned into Blaze HQ.
Considering its right next to the GC Suns recently developed Carrara oval, it could maybe be of some use to them also?

& it needs to be made airconned according to nbl rules but probs not a bad idea & at least its still on their home turf instead of oppositions.
