Gems win Shangluo Cup in China

The Gems are currently touring China as preparations build for the World Champs, and they have commenced well by winning the Shangluo Cup.

Here is a summary of how they went enroute to a 3-0 record:

Game 1: defeated China 94-69.
Rebecca Allen 16 pts, 8 rebounds; Gretel Tippett 14 pts, 6 rebounds; Kerryn Harrington 13 pts; Carley Mijovic 12 pts, 5 rebounds; Rebecca Coles 11 pts, 7 rebounds, 7 assists.
Gems start China tour with big win

Game 2: defeated USA 83-79.
Rebecca Cole 22pts (13/13 FT); Tayla Roberts 16pts; Gretel Tippett 11pts, 9 rebounds
Gems win tight game against USA in second clash

Game 3: defeated Czech Republic 73-51.
Gretel Tippett 17 points, 14 rebounds; Tayla Roberts 13pts, 9 rebounds; Rebecca Cole 12 points; Carley Mijovic 10 points
Gems beat Czech Republic to seal Shangluo Cup in China

I guess only the coach can answer that one...but I doubt that many changes would be made if they do.

Anon 892/LC - Chambers was quoted the other day as saying they would be probably take a look at a few other girls when they get back - this was prior to the tournament!

Struck me as odd as its been a pretty much closed shop since the squad for the qualifiers was announced nearly 9 months ago. Don't know who is on the outside who could force their way in - that hasn't already been discarded, unless they're looking for a way to squeeze another couple of Victorians in :).

Fair enough ankles and thanks for the info. But in any case, I cannot see wholesale changes being made to a side that is currently winning against national teams that includes the USA.

USA team is not their natioal team, but a team of All Stars put together by a basketball scout.Will be interesting to see if they get better as they had'nt trained with each other prior to this tournament.
