Top 5 club web sites

1) Forestville 10/10
http://www.forestvilleeagles.asn.au
By far the best club web site going around. It's always updated, provides plenty of information on what the club can offer, has pictures and is easy to move around. Overall - Awesome

2) Sturt Sabres 9/10 (Sorry Isaac)
http://www.sturtsabres.com.au/i.cfm
Easy to move around and updated information. Needs more on the ABL and links sections. Overall - Cool

3) Southern Tigers 8/10
http://www.southerntigers.com.au/welcome.html#
Nice layout and updated information. When clicking on the news tab, the zero tolerance policy for verbal abuse of referees in junior basketball appears. Good to see that someone is paying attention down there!! Overall - Good

4) Norwood Flames 7/10
http://www.norwoodbasketball.com.au/fs_home.asp
Standard layout is boring, not even a logo on the front page. Some pictures would be nice. Information is good.
Overall - Ok

5) West Adelaide 6/10
http://crikey.bigbutton.com.au/~bearcats/
Coaches corner is a good read. Layout needs some work.
Overall - Not bad

The Sabres site is quite old now. I've talked with the club about updating it soon and even about using the design that I came up with in my own time for the 2004/05 Sixers site last year.

(Ignore all the fake content! Shame that it never got to be used because with a bit of tinkering it could be up there with the best basketball sites anywhere; one of my other favourites is the Timberwolves site - the gallery and video stuff on the frontdoor is great if you have broadband. Generally the NBA club sites are excellent content-wise, but a pretty average from a design perspective.)

Great to see Forrestville with a 9/10 rating for a web site. Well done, now if we could just get the rest of the team sites up to the same standard, baskeball communication in SA would improve no-end.

It would be good to understand just what it takes in terms of people power to keep the Forestville site up-to-date and how they do it. If you know, let us know!

Okay, just been on the South website, (thanks for that Marlin)... Got to be THE worst out of all of them!

My personal view on the make-up of a club site: 15% layout/design, 15% ease of updating, 70% getting in there and actually updating it. And the ease of updating directly effects the interest of the person doing the updating. e.g., the Sabres site is old code that is a pain to work with. A site like australiascheapest.com.au is very quick and easy to edit.

The Forestville website is designed and updated by a Forestville parent - Dean Michailescu - and the content is provided by the Forestville community. Dean has a background in web development, however I'm sure it's possible to create an environment where most updates (particularly news items) can be done by someone without such experience.

I agree with Isaac - I have found that the main effort in maintaining a web site is ensuring it's updated regularly. Layout/design is important, but if the information is not up to date, noone will check it regularly.
