Blaze Roster Analysis

Love the look of this team, great balance and list retention with guys on extended deals! 2 spots left to fill, a legit import big man and a 3man slasher type.

*Great PG depth with 2 boomers in Gibson/Cadee.
*Hot shooters @ SG with Harvey/Goulding, likely to split minutes this upcoming season.
*Perennial boomer Wortho will probably slot in here long term and averages close to 20 points a game. A low end value import expected to slot in here also.
*Underrated Petrie is a long term blaze player and will want to get back to his top form post injury. Hoarey the back is a great veteran role player. Excellent decision making and provides that big body.
*High end import expected to start here with promising 6'10er tom garlepp coming off bench.

The team knows each other well being together a while now and should go deep injuries permitting. Can they match the Breakers/Tigers/Wildcats though?

Excellent 11th man in Teys also who will be a 3rd string pg type.

Blaze were very unlucky last season with all the injuries that had to deal with. If they can all stay healthy I expect them to make the playoffs. Great team to watch.

Great mix of players in their prime, youth, and veterans. I like this team for the title pending their import selections.

From the other side of the coin:

Gibbo has stalled in the past two years and if anything has lost a step. Cadee (who I am a fan of) is yet to prove he is fully recovered and capable of delivering at NBL level on a conistent basis.

Harvey can't create his own shot, is injury prone and is a defensive liability and while Goulding is an undoubted talent, has failed to do much with that talent since moving to the coast - has spent too much time working on post-game celebrations and not enough on a consistent jump shot.

Worthington is a bully-boy who when he plays as a role player is an MVP candidate, when he plays as a star, he forces shots and bitches to the refs, and an Import's money would be wasted here as anybody who can talk the coach into using Kendall as a stop-gap measure at point guard wont be giving up minutes any time soon.

Petrie will again be a stud IF he has been able to fully rehabilitate his Achilles (which is a slow process) and Hoare, while an excellent back-up is another year older and slower.

Garlepp is an excellent back-up but the Centre better be a go-to guy who can score because there's not a lot of consistent production in that group.

Joey is yet to convince me he can coach anything other than an absolutely all-star caliber group and this group isn't good enough to run itself.

Can't see them beating Perth, Cairns have lost some talent but Fearne seems to be finding his coaching feet, NZ will be tough again, Towsnville will contend again, Sydney seem to have moved forward and if Adelaide get Ervin, they'll take a big step forward. Tough to find a top 4 spot for them in that lot.

I'd look at swapping Goulding round with Harvey and bring Harvey off the bench.

Gibson/Goulding backcourt is rather good. Think Harvey is burned out; I agree with Ankles that his ability to make his own shot is lapsing. He can still hit a set shot and is good at mid range; but Goulding has the versatility. Consistency comes with more experience.
