South australian referee phil haines officiated the semi final between lithuania & russia at the 19 worlds.must be having a great tournament.not often we give ref's acknowledgement.
One of the better refs out there, and a decent bloke too.

Fiba tend to have their strongest officials on the semi's,& if you do a semi it means no medal game.unfortunately the best he can do on last day is 7v8 as the aussies play 5v6
He would prefer to finish on the semi game. Classification games are nothing but trouble. And fiba put quality refs on semi finals but the best performed still do the gold. It also helps which countries are involved and 2 countries from Europe make a neutral ref such as an Australian a choice both teams would be happy with.

I never really notice Phil Haines, which tells me that he is a good ref who gets the job done with a minimum of fuss.
